Galaxy S4 SD card issue

That's interesting...just bought a 64 San Disk for my tablet (Asus) and while it ultimately seems to work, when using a card reader it gave funny error messages at times including a false error message that it was write protected (even though the tablet's own file manager could write to it). The card reader supports SDXC and had no problems with a 64gb Kingston. All that said, the card is now working well--but to avoid timeouts and error messages I write to it only over a usb connection or a flash drive and using the tablet's own file manager

@OP (Original Poster)... "people say that it only last 3 months then die"...

How would anyone know it only last 3 months then dies??? The device HAS NOT been out 3 months. Stop listening to stupid people!!! Buy a good SD card... or like I'm going to do is use my SD I've been using for the last 2 years and put that in my new device... I bought a good card back then and it works for a long time. All SD cards go bad at some point... they all will not live forever.

I have a 64 gb class 10 SanDisk card for more than 3 months already and I never had any problems on my s3. Bought the s4 two weeks ago and the card is still 100% problem free on the s4. I put all my music and video files on the card. And I use foldermount to move games to the card without any issue. I must say that I have never used the card on a pc, always on the phone. I bought it from Amazon.de, after reading the reviews to find the best seller.

Have been using Att s4 with class 10 sandisk 64gb. I've had nothing but trouble so far. Microsd keeps unmounting and remounting. As in every 30 seconds. I have formatted card in phone and computer and drag/drop and used Kies to load. Works for about a day and then I have mounting issue. The card works just fine in my note 8.0. Just ordered Samsung 64gb to see if that takes care of issue. Have no idea what the problem is. Anybody have a step by step test with any consistent results?

Only thing I can think is that the card is defective or it may be somehow a bit loose in the phone. Maybe you should try to remove it and push the metal frame that holds the card a little bit, to make the card more fixed after its reinsertion. Or you could try to reset the phone and reformat the card. I used mine as it came, never formatted, and it works fine.

Did you have any issues with the music from your SD not appearing in the stock music player? If so, how did you fix it?

Create a folder on the SD card named Media. Create a subfolder named Music.

Thanks for the reply. I did what you said but I still have the same problem. Some of the music appears (104/2700+ songs). Any other advice?
Thanks again.

I have had the dreaded problem to which you refer. My SD card has had two major malfunctions since my purchase only three weeks ago. The first time, my phone warned me that my SD card was corrupt. It asked me if I wanted to reformat. I did so, losing my data in the process. The second time occurred just moments ago (which prompted me to search for this thread). This time, my phone warned me that I had unmounted the SD card without appropriate shutdown. Of course, I had done no such thing. Never moved the card. Never even removed the phones cover, for goodness' sake! Hence, S4 owners, I suggest you proceed with caution when installing and utilizing SD cards, especially when storing critical information. If there is an SD card that is known to be more reliable in S4 phones, do not hesitate to spend the extra money! At the recommendations of this thread, I'm going online to purchase a Samsung card, before it's too late!

What phone are you using the SD cards in?

I had thought this was implied, since I specifically referred to the S4. We'll, to reiterate, I'm using the new S4.

I just put a Samsung 64 gb #10 card in my phone. First I formatted the empty card ON the phone to assure the utmost in compatibility. Then I took the card out, put it in my computer, and started nervously adding all kinds of data.
So far I've put on lots of music, many photos, 10 pdf s and various other text documents, the data from a dictionary but not the app itself, ringtones and wallpaper. The phone has found everything very very quickly. I'm wondering whether one might be able to install some apps as well but if you install all your data, it makes a big difference.

Today I got the dreaded "SD card removed" error. Card worked fine for months. Used it in my S3 with no issues. Arrrgggh.

Sandisk wants me to format the card on my laptop, think it will fix it. If not, he said they will exchange it.

Thinking of just getting another brand of card since Sandisk (who I thought was top of the line) has had so many issues using in the Galaxy lineup.

Try just reseating the card,a couple times if you have to. I got the same error on SanDisk, and bought a 64gb Samsung card which worked fine the first time I put the card in the phone....then the next time I took the Samsung card out and put it back in the phone,I got the same error. I even returned my phone for a new s4, and I still get the same errors periodically. Now I just reseat the card until the phone mounts it successfully.

Got a new card last night, copied all the stuff off the Sandisk to the new card, put new card in phone and all worked fine.

Got up this morning, got in the car, went to play some music and what do I see? That D%@M message again!! The card isn't even a Sandisk! Other strange thing I noticed is that the battery went from 100% to 91% in 20 minutes...and I didn't even use the phone other than turn it on to try to fix the card. UGH!

I took phone apart and reseated the card 2-3 times and so far it's working fine. I have the BB Reward Silver return policy of 60 days so I'm tempted to exchange the phone just to see if it's a phone issue. However, honestly, I'm putting most of the blame on this and my Bluetooth issues on the 4.2.2 software.

I've suspected that Android hasn't done a good job of handling SD cards for a while now. We use and abuse SanDisk cards at work all the time and I've never had any issues with them in other OS's. However, I've had issues with nearly every Android phone (two Motorolas and one Samsung) I've had no matter what card I use. My guess is this will be the last phone I'll have to worry about it with, though. In two years I'm hoping that 64GB of internal memory will be easier to come by, perhaps partially driven by Android and Google's apparent lack of good support for uSD cards.

The issue I see with my S4 is that it will get in this state where Google Now doesn't see my internet connection. If I "restart" from there it says there's an issue with my SD card. If I shut down and then start my phone back up again everything is fine. It's happened twice since last Thursday. If I didn't see stuff like this from Android before I'd think it's my phone or the card, but I believe it's the OS.

I got a fix... inserted my new sd 64g in my old crapy inspire. It worked fine. Reinserted to my shiny s4. Works fine now. Thanks samsung!!! Had the same prob as most. S4 wouldn't even read it when formated from the pc. But the old phone did the trick. Hope this helps someone.
