Bought S4, refurb, a few wks after 90 day warranty shutting down, ( no battery swelling or perceptible overeat). Tried 3rd repkacemet battery, RAV, You Tube vid; seemed to solve initially. ATT holding me to finish 2 yr contract, even though they're in the process of eliminating those for all users. Gonna try Christian S. Solution re micro SD...

My Problem is the same exact as yours, and the serial number is th1d6..... it just shut off on me suddenly and wont turn back on for anything. i tried plugging it in, taking the battery out for 5 mins, restarting it, NOTHing. i cant get it to do anything. i even tried plugging it into the charger without the battery and it wont do my normal screen with usually says something about battery missing. but absolutely nothing.. you still think its completely the battery?

I have all of these problems, but I don't need to plug it in to start it all the time. And it usually happens when it gets a little overheated. I checked my battery I saw no warping, nor did I feel any bumps. I have no idea what's going on. :/

I had the same thing for the past 2 months, even had my carrier send me out a brand new battery under my warrenty.. didn't work.. but what DID WORK was clearing the cache partition.. Tyvm to the poster that suggested that in like 15 straight posts lol...

Turn off, remove & reinsert battery.
Press Volume up, then hold power button.
Samsung logo appears, let go of power button , continue holding volume up, until u see you're in recovery mode, (little blue lettering upper left corner of screen). Scroll to "Clear Cache Partition", using the volume down button. Select by pressing the power button. When finished, select Reboot System.. Your done..

This DOES NOT erase or mess with any of your data. And after tring everything under the sun that was suggested, (in many many threads besides just this one), the only thing that actually worked for my GS4.. 5 days and counting & not one restart.. NOT ONCE.. Not even in my pocket while working in 86 degrees direct sunlight..

So unless you're absolutely positive it wasnt/isn't your battery.. this is the only thing that actually worked for the "non battery" GS4 restart issue.. GL..

My phone did this a while ago so i got a new battery and it was fine until last week. It shuts down randomly and looses signal and the 2nd battery doesn't start with BD.
What would you suggest to do?

My S4 has been shutting down randomly for a while and will not reboot unless either left for half an hour or so, or is connected to the charger. The battery can be as much as 85-90% or down at 30%, it is quite random. Even though it had not shut down all day today, I've just gone through the process of wiping the cache partition and lo and behold on rebooting it shut down two seconds after seeing the home screen! I don't know what the thickness of the battery should be (it's China made), but it does look like it might be slightly swollen. I guess I should change it!

If the battery is swollen then get a new one asap as swollen batteries are dangerous. You can see if it is swollen by laying the battery on a flat surface & spin it. The battery should not spin, if it spins then get a new one.

My problem is a little different. It has been randomly shutting down but when I plug it in and turn it on it works fine and it seems to be working fine unplugged. Will doing a factory reset fix this problem

i have a same problem with you. My phone s4 sometimes turn off by itself. The screen just comeback when i connect the phone with charger. it make me crazy for 2 weeks. After upgrade my phone to newest rom version 5.0.1, the problem had gone. But when i install "assistive touch for android" software, the problem turn again. So i think first of all, if you use that software, please remove it immediately. if the problem still happen, you should upgrade your phone to newest rom version.

did replacing battery work? mine is doing the same thing... shutting down and won't come back on at all... very frustrusting.

So my phone shuts off randomly around 98% - 40% battery life even with a brand new battery. And will not turn back on until you charge. I see the samsung logo when i try briefly. I tried 3 brand new batterys to make sure. If its charging it wont shut off so i got a charging case and ive been using it for over a year. Im pretty sure its the motherboard. Also any video i play has a 2-3 second lag in the audio. I reset my phone multiple times. Updated everything with no change at all. Mother board replacement os super easy but i cant find anyone with this problem online.

Hello.
I've really tried searching for forumposts which describes the problem I'm experiencing, but not really anything like it.

Okay, I've had my phone for a few months now, and over the past week, it has been shutting itself down, even though there is plenty of battery left.
It seems like when I'm "stressing" the phone alittle bit, I can reproduce the problem. For instance, it usually happens when I browse around and multitask - jumping from one app to another... Also, if i just load the game GTA III, which is somewhat heavy to run, it shuts off within 10 minutes, usually less.
Also, I'm unable to reproduce the problem if I plug the phone to a power charger.

Firmware is the newest 4.2.2, kernel 3.4.0-1220396.

So, my first thought is that battery? I figure that since the device shuts off, and does not reboot, its unlikely to be a software issue.
My other thought is the heat, even though its never really hot or anything when it does this - maybe alittle warmer then normal body temperature, but nothing serious.

So I'm lost. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated :) Is it just repair time??

EDIT: I tried this app:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...va_conf.taketake.KyusokuHouden&token=HEFJlM7J

It runs for a whole 3 seconds before my phone shuts off.

Regards,
Anders

This exact thing happens to my phone everday. I really wanted to use the new Pokémon Go app but when I go out, my phone shuts off as usual.

Just brought a used S4 ,all work when showing it by seller ,(seller wont get back to me,so id say knew about problem) got home and now find it turns itself off,it was factory reset so done all the updates when at home,
still same problem, seen this thread about battery, my battery does not seem to have a serial number on it , but does seem to have a bulge in the middle and does keeps spinning when layed flat on table,as suggested in other post to check, so have ordered a new one off ebay,(so many sellers to chose from dont know if it will be anygood noticed some with BD serial number and made in china, so avoided them), hoping this will solve the problem, will update.
