I was at the gym and they were working fine...until the volume automatically reduced itself and I tried to bring it back up with the headphones but it was as if the phone would not keep the volume on. So I unplugged the headphones and restarted then phone. Now the volume works fine on the phone, however the controls on the headphones no longer work. Is this just a crap pair of headphones? Or is this something in the phone that glitched out.

I'd be curious to know if it's something in the headphones or the jack. I'm leaning towards the former as they don't look like the highest quality pieces. I guess it's also possible that something in the software is amiss too.

I started having the same issue yesterday. Mine started when I was using the Video app that is pre installed though. The volume muted and could not turn back up until I restarted the phone and then the volume controls on my headphones stopped working. I did a factory reset on the phone and that worked, until I tried to use the video app again and then it did the same thing. So far I haven't found any fixes.

I've only used those earphones a few times. So far no problems * knocks on wood *

Probably so. Let's hope it's software related and can be fix with an update. :)

Just started happening to me as well. The headphone work, no volume control and no microphone input working any longer.

Same issue. Volume still works, but the button to stop and start music as well as to start the voice operation of my s4 doesn't work. It now will occasionally turn the volume down.

I have the same problem here and it's really annoying me because with Samsung we always have to experience failures .
I'm really considering changing my phone . :(

Yeah it also happened to me... suddenly the phone goes into vibration mode and has no sound even if I manually change it to sound mode..then I have to restart...don't know if it's software problem..

There is a definite issue with some of these Samsung phones. I just got a Galaxy S5 (Verizon) and within a month, the controls on the stock earphones started showing the symptoms explained in this thread. They work sometimes, and suddenly stop working. There is no problem with the sound, but the controls (and sometimes the MIC) stop working. I have ordered a replacement from Verizon but they will give you a re-certified like-new device. At this point, as long as this issue is taken care of, I am okay.
