Galaxy S4 video recorder vs compact camcorder

I have a Kodak PlaySport Zx5 and while it was good 2 years ago I'm starting to notice that my Galaxy S4 phone makes better videos. Now, I want a better camcorder that is compact to make videos of the kids doing sports in HD, but I'm not sure if a $350 camcorder will make better quality videos than a smartphone. Any thoughts?
