Galaxy S4 Weather Widget Not Working

A

AC Question

I have tried absolutely everything I have seen in similar asks on this forum and gotten nowhere. I have cleared the cache, force stopped, restarted, battery pulled, uninstalled/reinstalled, deleted location, and I still cannot get this silly widget to work. Whether I have location services turned on or off, it keeps giving "cannot find location" and "service unavailable" whenever I manually put it in. On the widget itself it just says "connection failed".

This started happening yesterday and still no change. It is the stock weather widget that comes with a Samsung Galaxy S4. Is there something I haven't tried yet that will fix this? I know there are other weather apps but this one has the aesthetic appeal that I like.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Data Usage, and make sure you're not Restricting Background Data, either universally or specifically for the Weather app.

Also, do you have the phone's Location service set to High Accuracy or Battery Saving?

Ultimately, you might want to try reinstalling the firmware using Samsung Kies.

This same thing happens to me. My galaxy s4 weather widget is not working and when I press on it, it keeps saying location failed. I tried using the globe icon and it says connection failed. I set everything. High accuracy, location is on, and I’m not sure where to check if I’m restricting background data. I need this case solved as soon as possible, thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you talking about the Galaxy S4 phone, or the Galaxy Tab S4 tablet? Those are both really old devices (the phone is 11 years old, the tablet 6 years old), so the issue is most likely related to the out-of-date software. Neither of those devices stopped getting official updates a while ago, so I don't think you'll be able to find a solution. A custom ROM based on a more recent Android version might help, but that's generally beyond the scope of this forum -- you could try over at XDA-Developers.com instead.
