Galaxy S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

My friends with the M8 go on and on about how the S5 lags but I have no idea what they're talking about. I haven't seen any.

I started to notice some lag as well.

something else I noticed is that hitting the side screen lock button doesn't always turn the screen on to allow you to unlock the phone. I've seen it a few times where it'll light up the buttons next to the home button, but not the actual screen.

Can you walk me through how to turn this off in the settings menu? I can't seem to find it.

Settings > Applications > S Voice > Uncheck home button double tap box

None here, but I've disabled about 30 apps including s-voice. I also turned animations down to .5.

I think I've found the prime culprit in the lag controversy..HEAT. When I was trying (relatively unsuccessfully) to charge the phone in the car with a stadard micro usb car charger, it got very hot and pretty much everything slowed down to a crawl or stopped working all together. As soon as it cooled down and I rebooted it, all was well. I can tell you that this phone does not play well when overheated.

How do you "turn down animations?"

TIA

You have to open the developer options. In about device in settings scroll down and click 7 times pretty much anywhere. It will unlock another button below about device. I turned mine down. It helps a bit.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see any lag at all. I am coming from the Nexus 5. I don't really get the lag comments.

I used an S5 in the shop for a while, seems pretty smooth 2 me

Just switched from HTC Droid Incredible 2 to S5. I notice frustratingly long lags in two areas. First, when on the phone, the screen turns off as I am talking, as it should. But after pulling the phone away to view the screen, it takes a significantly longer time for the screen to revive so that I can hit the button to hangup. Counted one Mississippi, two missi , revive, push to hang up. That is enough time for the other party to hear perhaps more than you want. It is significantly longer than any other phone I have had. So be mindful that you cannot quickly hang up. Second, when pushing the 'on' button to wake the phone up, it takes longer to come on than my previous two phones (S Fascinate and HTC Drd Incr2 ). Again, count one, two, on. Once the screen is on, no delays and faster in opening apps and navigating than prior phones. I love the phone, but really wish there was a manual hangup button.

Under Call Settings you can enable a setting that ends the call with the power button.

It's definitely slower than the M8. There is no sense of "immediacy". It's more like "you pressed something......and now I'll do it".

On its own in a vacuum it's plenty fast, but that doesn't make other things not faster. So the S5 is fast, but the M8 is faster.

To be clear, I have seen no stutters. Those are different. It hasn't hung on anything I've asked it to do. There's just this delay between when you tell it to do something and when that action actually happens.

True, but its still not bad. My friends made it seem as if the S5 was horrible. But then again they also claim the Note 3 was faster and I can honestly say that's not true. Its subtle so you could say equal but the S5 isn't slower than the Note 3.

Friends can be funny. Lol

I took my S5 back cuz it lagged really bad. Got the Note 3 instead. It's so much better no lag buttery smooth. Love it.

I'm finding my S5 to be just slightly better than the Note 3. Its so weird were all having such varied experiences. The Note 3 was great too and I had no complaints but going back its just slightly less smooth.

Does your Note 3 have Kit Kat? Verizon didn't so that may be why.

Yeah my AT&T 3 came with kit kat out the box. I might have had a defective device but I was within my 14 day's. I love the size of the 3 better and the internal memory. To each their own. But when I have a bad experience with something I get rid of it and don't go back.
