Galaxy S5: Anxious and excited!

Just begin using Google's Hangouts, I think is your best bet, you'll still have your messages and video calls, but using Google's stuff instead of Apple's. Just download Hangout into her iphone.

I'm new a android phone user. If my wife has iPhone still. Is there a FaceTime program we can share?

No people should not have to change their settings. Once your number is kicked out of the Apple servers they will automatically come through as texts. That function on iPhone is only if an message won't go through to another iPhone as an iMessege then it will send as a text.

No they won't. I went through this last month when I got my S3... If you don't change your iMessage to "off" you won't get any messages until you call Apple so they can delete your Apple ID from their iMessage servers. And you also have to do this weird thing like delete all your previous messages to get the new ones. Its complicated lol

If you are on Verizon, I suggest you try the Verizon Messages app. Normally I avoid Verizon apps like the plague. However, Verizon Messages allows you to send and receive SMS on your phone, tablet or computer. They have an app on iOS, Android and a Webclient. It works like iMessage only better. IMO

After I called them it was fixed in 30 minutes.

Does she have an ipad or any other ios device that may have it turned on, ie imac, macbook, etc?

I find it perplexing how unnecessarily cumbersome it is to do certain (perhaps most?!) things on Apple devices.

Make sure you turn off and log out of imessage or you won't receive text messages. Enjoy and welcome

Congrats! I'm sure you will like the phone.

In the meantime, you might want to turn off iMessage and send/receive a few text messages using SMS and not iMessage. It can take a while sometimes for Apple to realize you're not using iMessage, and some iPhone users have reported not receiving text messages and having to call Apple to clear out their account.

You need to also de-register your phone off your apple account online.....

It also helps if the person on the receiving end of your gf's texts delete the old message threads on their phones. That seemed to resolve some issues I had when transitioning.

Thanks for all the tips. I am trying to call Apple to remove my id from iMessage but they want to charge me $20!
The people that have done this how do you get around paying to talk to someone?
