Galaxy S5 Battery Drain

coming from an iphone 4 i can get 1.5-2 hours on 10%

Great joke... the iPad Air isn't capable of that kind of battery life even though it's regarded as the tablet with the best battery life...

The iPhone 4 is not even remotely capable of achieving that kind of battery life especially with heavy use like video streaming, maybe idle time...

Not joking.. I didn't say streaming youtube videos constantly. Web surfing mostly.

Do you have a screen shot of these battery stats?

I have an iPad Air which has tremendously good battery life and the most I have ever gotten was 14 hours of usage. If the iPhone 4 is able to get 15-20 hours of Web browsing on a single charge I will be sincerely surprised but all the resources online state it doesn't even come close.

The phone is now 4 years old. battery usage is not gonna be the same anymore. And I'm just talking about an hour use only, not 15+ which i never do.

If you ask me, that's excessive.

well i think its fine cause you have to realize that the S5's screen is just gorgeous it beats everything ive seen hands down.. plus you have background syncing going on.. in my case bluetooth on.. and most battery testing in regards to video is with data off and stuff..

so i think thats not too excessive.. obviously can be better but each phone depends.. i am just frustrated with google play services sucking the battery needlessly.. if you check play stores review of google play services everyone is bashing it.. seriously fck u google!!

I dont think I have any background syncing because I've turned off everything that I can possibly can, with the phone still functioning properly of course. As I mentioned, 60% brightness only, only using chrome broswer. I love the phone, but I'm just ranting being from a previous iphone 4 owner.

I'm getting an average of 5 days using 4 hours of screen time on my s5. However, I'm retired and probably stay home a lot more than most folks.

background syncing is always on even if you turn sync off.. its what pushes messages and notifications from apps like whatsapp, bbm, facebook etc.. the only way to turn that off is in data usage where you specifically forbid it from background usage...

iphone 4 is a joke man.. you cant even compare s5's battery life to it with s5's screen and so many features added to it

One more tid bit for my personal notebook, and one more gripe eliminated.
The ONLY notifications that I want are SMS messages period.
Everything else can just wait until I hookup to my WiFi at home.

I also am getting 4 to 5 days of use from my phone between charges if I choose to.
Depends on if I am away from home and need the internet and other features the S5 provides.

Love my S5, gives me everything, or nothing at my beck and call.

I'm not comparing iphone 4 to s5 features. I'm comparing the battery life when my iphone 4 was new. The battery life on my iphone 4 lasted longer as I stated. You may not agree but this is from my experience.

my iphone 4 is at 4 years but still gets better battery life than my s5. but i still love the s5.

Correct. My iphone 4 drains 10% per hour and it's 4 years old vs my New S5 go it less than 2 weeks old, drains 10% per hour.

When I got my iphone 4 new, I was very impressed with the battery. I figure 10% per hour, my 4 year old iphone 4 battery is probably dying out and it's a good idea to upgrade a new phone by now wouldn't you agree? And My s5 is getting the same about of battery drain as my iphone 4. As I stated before, this is just a rant. Life goes on.

its like comparing apples to oranges.. cant be compared.. ****ty screen v HD AMOLED ... 3G v LTE .. millions of background tasks running v ****ty IOS restricted intterface.... 4K Video v not even 720 p.. i can go on and on..

the fact that s5 can last you a day with all those features is a testament to samsung itself

Fair enough. I believe it's the screen that is eating up the battery life then. But to point some things out, I use WIFI, not mobile data so surf the internet and watch youtube. And you are going on and on about the great features of the s5, but you don't understand that I'm not comparing features here. I'm only JUST comparing the same usage I did on the iphone4 with the s5. It's not necessary to be fighting over this as I said it's just a rant. As you said, the screen of the s5 is powerful and is probably the culprit of sucking the battery life. Although i have reduced the screen's brightness to 60%.

i get more than a day out of my phone right now i had 25% left and have 1 day 4hrs on it i use to get more until the same problem just started happening to me, the google play services is taking up 26% of my battery, it wasn't before I'm going to verizon tomorrow to get it checked out.

Turn OFF Sync and that will stop Google from eating up your battery.

This is a copy of another Battery Drain post I just made.

I also keep Background DATA turned OFF.

My battery use is so small as to not even be a consideration.

I turn on Data if it is needed when I am away from the house. Other than that, it stays off 95% of the time.

I get 2 or 3 days use on every charge w/o even trying hard and I still use my phone heavily when away from the house.

But, when I get home, and pick up the phone, the WiFi gets turned ON and stays that way until I go to bed. Then all traffic is turned OFF when it goes on the Qi charger pad.

Every work day, I pick the phone up from the charger pad at 0500 and don't need it until lunch time. It is nearly always at 98% at 1100 hrs and I burn through a lot of DATA then.

Come evening time and the battery is still at 60%+ by the time I get home around 5 PM.

Then the WiFi gets turned ON and the DATA is turned OFF. The rest of the evening with me playing around with it a lot, it still have 50% or more battery by bed time at 10 PM...

I always leave SYNC turned OFF unless I am using the Play Store, it won't work w/o Sync.

All of the junk apps have been turned off, S Health, Amazon, etc...

I also make it a point to Close Down everything when I am not using an app. Those apps running in the background will chew up a lot of power.

Battery Doctor's Switcher widget gets a lot of use for me. I control when and IF the phone has access to the outside world, and I clear out all apps and activity every time I lay the phone down.

Overnight my S5 has gone from having fantastic staying power with (some days not needing to recharge at all) to using 15% power within an hour. I am using it the same as I had been in the past and to my knowledge nothing additional had been downloaded. When I was getting over 24hours life out of the battery I was stoked, and even though getting a 12 hour day sounds good, mine is draining faster than that now :(

I woke up this morning it had 96% and two hours later at work it dropped to 12%?!?!

Bizarre....5 hours into my day and I am at 93%. I do NOTHING to address battery loss. I have google sync on, data on, ...I keep 10-20 apps open, I never close them, I don't use battery doctor or anything .....when I get home tonight I'll be at 80% or so, after a 17 hour day maybe down to 70%.

And I have been texting today, playing games (new game Smash it!!) reading emails, etc.
