I did it, but it doesn't help. What do you mean by "unwanted applications"?

Maybe I just should use it more frequently. It's new battery, so that should be better in some time. Hm.... I don't know what to do about this. But I think it isn't normal that it's getting worse.

Unwanted applications means the apps that you are not using which you have downloaded from market
I think this might be the battery problem, buy a new one

I noticed I have to give the phone a restart after charging or I will get high battery drain, seems from the OS but a restart isn't too inconvenient so I haven't looked into it further....After the restart it's great.

Last night I turned on the ultra power savings mode when I sent to sleep. At that point I had 82% battery left. I woke up about 6 and a half hours later and I had 46% battery left. This was with the phone on ULTRA POWER SAVINGS MODE...I went into the battery app and Android OS and Android System were both pushing 25% a piece with the screen coming in at 21%. How is this even possible? It's gotta be a huge glitch in the software.

Here's mine from today. I'm happy

The quick connect app has been a culprit on my S5 through AT&T. Looking for a way to disable it.

I force closed it twice and did not see it again until I restarted the phone then it jumped up again the next day. It will drop the battery from 83% to 20% within three hours.

Also having the same problem here. Battery seems to drain overnight being idle. Is it supposed to act this way? Any suggestions?

I've only had my phone since Tues night so maybe I'm not there yet (short lived battery syndrome). My phone has been unplugged from 100% charge for 11hrs and 45mins. I'm at 83% (light usage) and Android OS is 15%. My battery information doesn't list "kernel", just Android OS. This that the same thing? I'm sure (at least I hope) once the new wears off and I'm not exploring and tweaking, I should get better battery life.

i just posted the same exact thing as you stated. But people on the forum say it's good. For me, coming from an iphone 4, that's poor battery life. For me at least. So much for the rave about 2800mah battery. But it's fine. I'm gonna get the extra battery with external charger from samsung so no biggie. At least the phone is fast. Still lags here and there, but I'm sure it's not the phone, more likely software issue. Hopefully future updates will fix the bugs.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but every single reply to this thread has been absolute and utter bull****. (this is gonna be a very harsh reply, so dont continue on reading if you'd think it makes you uncomfortable. some people are just plain ignorant)
"turn ultra power saving on" wth???? that is meant for emergency. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT'S A FIX ? i'd feel sorry for you.
"You kernel is consuming too much." no **** Sherlock.
that sums up 95% of the replies. Can we get an actual retarded issue with android already plz?
It's a sync issue for me, google account is syncing at an absolutely stupid rate. Basically back to back like it's stuck in a sync loop.
Phone's rooted but havent tinkered with the OS much so shouldnt probs be something i've messed up.
I had an issue with quick connect consuming too much (com.media) so turning that off fixed it for a few days and now we're back to sync issue)

Harsh, but I agree. Android System us using a ton for me but I am getting 5 hours of display time with 2 hours of talk so I can't complain. However, to achieve this, only Gmail and Contacts sync, location is turned off and nothing auto updates.
Believe it or not there's little we can do. This is a KitKat issue that has to be fixed with Android 4.4.3 update. Until then the S5 will more than likely continue to encounter these issues on a large scale. Its unacceptable to release an OS with such an obvious flaw.

I bought my S5 yesterday and the battery has been horrible. Took it off the charger at 6:30 PM, by 10:00 PM it was below 50%. Went to bed, woke up at 3:30 AM this morning and the battery was at 17%.

I have disabled Location, the screen brightness is down to almost zero, and removed the verizon cloud.

Today, the phone was taken off the charger at 8:30 AM, and is down to 87% at 10:30 AM. So, it is running a little better than yesterday, but I think it is draining too fast.

Something is draining your phone. Mine is off charger at 6:30AM and by 6:30PM it's around 75-80%.

You all should probably be posting your carrier along with your problems -

As someone pointed out above, they had an issue with an AT&T function/app draining the battery.

My S5 on Verizon has had very solid battery life - it generally lasts through the entire day. Left idle overnight, it generally only loses 6-9% of its charge.

In my experience with Android smart phones, rapid battery drain is usually either associated with signal issues, or app issues. Generally, you either have an APP that is acting up...or your signal is not that great, and the phone is trying it's best to "latch on" to GPS/Cell tower/LTE constantly.

At work my Galaxy Nexus would constantly flux between 3g and 4g, and lose signal all together, which would drain the battery faster than a ....well, fast.

On my s5, att. I noticed Google + is using like 12% battery. I disabled it and its still using battery. Any suggestions? Should I clear data in it?

I had the same problems, 50% battery drain in 4 hours even when idle and having to charge it whilst at work. However made the following changes and now the battery life is much better, lasting the day on one charge:

Reduce the time to auto switch your screen off to 15 seconds

Turn off location until you need to use it

Turn off the touch button lights

Turn off all the Samsung air view and some of the gestures and definitely turn off smart stay

Now my s5 will easily last the day on moderate use, you should see a noticeable difference with the above without damaging the experience much (or at all). Hope this helps

You shouldn't have to do all that. There's plenty of people that don't even charge their S5 every day, I'm one of them.

My phone was down to 65% in 4 hours with no talk time, 30 min screen time and Android System eating the battery alive with 40% usage last night. I had to reboot the phone and that helped but that's ridiculous.
