Galaxy S5 battery issues already?

This will help you all!

I had the same issue my phone dropped its charge like hell, but i found out the real problem.
I also have the note 2, i had the s3 and know the s5. As you know this devices uses the gestures options. Turn off those that use the front sensor why? because when you have your phone inside your pocket will make the sensor be ready to receive a gesture like screen shot due to the palm swipe instruction also the smart alert activated by motion. Smart pause keeps your phone ready to receive orders because the sensor is activated.
I mention about my previous devices because in the note 2 you actually can see the sensor on a dim red light next to the proximity sensor.
its the same on the s5 so if you are not going to use this options turn them off. The Smart pause can be activated when you swipe your finger down. Customize your quick settings buttons to have at hand those you use.

You can also check the NFC option mots of the s5 you just buy have this option turned on, turn it off if you dont use it that much. The notification bar has all the buttons you need to turn most of this options on.
The print service also drain your bat. Turn the print services off too. Screen mirroring will also drain your bat.

I will post a link i did not make but may come handy. I don't agree with 7 and 14 but you can always choose.

My phone was down to 65% in 4 hours with no talk time, 30 min screen time and Android System eating the battery alive with 40% usage last night. I had to reboot the phone and that helped but that's ridiculous.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

Hi guys,

I hope I can help you out.
Ive registered only to share my experience and what I did to solve my S5s draining battery.

In very short, my battery kept on draining, even though I tried most of the "fixes" and hints flowing around like turning off location settings, dimming the display, turning off mobile data and so on.

All I did was following:

Restore the phone to factory settings and start it upp without processing any further.

Run the battery completely to 0% so that the phone dies.

Let it sit for an hour at least.

Plug it in and do not start it, let it fully charge so the light turns green in the left corner.

Disconnect the phone and let it sit for a while.

Restart the phone and process all except for signing in to the samsung account.

Run the battery all down to 0% and repeat the full charge process.

That did it for me, seriously im not ****ting around. I dont know why or if one of the above could do, but after all testing this definetly did it. I have all functions on incl LTE and locations, my battery is extremely good from now on.

Sorry for my english and long post!

Hope this helps someone out there.

I'm on Verizon.

The first time around it was full of bloatware and all of the Gee Whiz features were turned ON by default.

Amazon Suites was the worst battery hog of the fleet.... while learning my new S5 phone, I started out searching for things that were on it that I don't need or want.

The bloatware was first to go. On each piece of bloatware or app, turn off Notifications on that app first, then Disable the app. If you don't, the app does not always get disabled.

In Developer Options, turn OFF all animations.

Turn off all Motions and Gestures.

Install Battery Doctor and create the two Widgets it offers. One looks like the top of a AA cell battery. There other is a double for the BD icon itself. Each time you put the phone to sleep, Close All Apps (double menu, close all). Then hit the AA cell battery widget which will close all background apps. Then hit the BD widget and turn off all of the services you won't need while phone is asleep. For me, that is DATA, Sync, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth. It is hard to use those if you are asleep beside the phone.

In Battery Doctor, to get the best performance out of it, you must cruise through all of the Settings Menus and look at the Whitelist. Only leave those checked that you cannot do without. doing so, will give the phone tremendous battery life. There are several Mode Menus, you must set the options in each one of them. The one most critical item is BD will set the Display Time to 30 seconds by default. I always set my Display Time to 10 minutes. That way I can read the newspapers on the internet w/o being interrupted.

For me, I only need to access the data or internet at random times. I don't play games on it or visit social network sites.

With a few phone calls during the day and a bit of text messaging, I can easily get 3 days battery life. Sometimes 4 days if I'm not talking much at all.

each of us are different, and the apps that we chose to leave running will effect the battery life.

YMMV, but that is life.

One small reminder..... if like me, you turn off DATA and Wifi, and you loose the phone, you cannot gain control of it via a Remote Control app or from the web.

I have a Neckstrap on my phone. It resides in my shirt pocket all the time, and the strap is around my neck.

I have done this for years and it is just a habit. Slide phone in pocket, throw neckstrap over my head.

that habit got started by an employer who required that we wear ID Badges on neckstraps... Do that for 20 years and neckstraps are just a part of you.

but, you won't be loosing you phone near so easily either. I never, ever, put the phone in a fanny pack (purse?). for me that is a sure fire method of loosing the phone. You are not used to it being "a part of you" and you can walk away from it and it is gone.... the thief took it off the table.

Once I used my phone while on my tractor lawnmower. I just shoved it in my shirt pocket and forgot the neckstrap. Well, it fell out and it was a long painful search before I found it again buried under mowed grass.

I turned on ultra power saving mode at 32% when I went to bed. My phone was dead in the morning.

Got my Google Active AT&T last week and battery was terrible. Checked usage and found that Media was culprit. I discovered that my sd card had some corrupt files. Media scanner must have gotten stuck on them or something. The solution: I saved the files I needed to my pc, reformatted card in phone, re-downloaded apps and battery is doing great now.

Hey guys, i'm a newbie to androidcentral forums.

I've had my Galaxy S5 from Vodafone NL (no vodafone software installed) since one week before official launch (11th of april i think).

The first month the phone was amazing, especially the battery. It would last for almost two days. Suddenly my battery would empty itself from what i've experienced. During the night it would eat a good 15-20% of my charge while it was just sitting there under my pillow (its my alarm). Many days of googling passed and no proper solution or answer, only "your phone might be broken, return it" "might be a dead battery".
My phone lasted less than a day before it needed the electrical syringe from the wall.

But that couldn't and shouldn't be possible, I am not that unlucky (broken battery/broken phone hardware happened to me on my previous phone, htc incredible s).
So i started to look past page 2 on google and then i found some really far fetched attempt for fixing a malfunctioning battery or incorrect calibrated battery. I can't find that damn website, maybe because it was all in russian (translated by google) which makes finding that same website a pain in the ***. I don't save history on my computer because....i have my reasons, now i wish i would have saved the url.

I'll try to explain you how to fix it (or atleast attempt to fix the battery drain). You will be needing a DCV meter, google volt meter, i got the yellow one.

The Galaxy S5 Battery has 2800mAh charge with 4.4V on a full charge, not sure what volts it should be on empty, mine used to be 3.52V. Battery states 3.85V (korean writing), I don't know what that means.

This is all I remember from the website, I'll try to explain with my best english ever I will (broken grammar on purpose :P)

1) Charge your phone to 100%. After your phone reached 100%, remove the battery and check the amount of volt. My battery had 4.35V on a full charge. If it is lower than 4.35V (4.31-4.34) your battery holds less charge than a normal battery. If it's lower than 4.30, you should get a new one.

2) Drain your phone battery by playing games or watching movies, till your phone shuts down. Remove your battery and wait 5 minutes. Check your battery volts, mine had 3.52 when it was acting weird. I'm not an expert in batteries maybe someone can explain more about full and empty charges.

3) Insert the battery and turn your phone on, if your phone didn't calibrate the battery correctly you should have atleast 2% of charge in your phone. (i had 4%). Drain the last drops of juice out of your battery and wait for your phone to shut down. Remove your battery again and wait 5 minutes again. Insert your battery and try to turn your phone on. If your phone doesn't turn on procede to 4). If it turns on, drain it.

4) Check your battery Volts, mine had 3.50 exact on a complete drain.
Here comes the weird and how would this ever fix anything part. Drain your phone from excess charge by putting the + and - contacts on the + and - contacts of where you put the battery. Put your DCV meter on 2000m so you can see the amount of charge left in your phone. Mine had atleast 1200 left.
Keep the voltmeter connected to the + and - connectors and you will see the volts dropping graduately. You can speed up the process by putting the voltmeter's + cable between the first and second connector from the phone and the - cable between the third and fourth connector. make sure the voltmeter touches both 1+2 and 3+4. You'll see the volts dropping rappidly till around 15.

5) If the volts wont drop, grab your battery, insert it and directly connect your phone to your charger. If it wont turn on wait untill you see the red light burning. If your phone turns on, let it boot up, enter your pin number and wait 30 sec. After that, turn off your phone and wait till your phone is charged to 100%.

Voila, battery is calibrated and those drain glitches are solved, my battery lasts atleast 30 hours again and I use my phone like an addict (Snapchat, Whatsapp, Family Guy game [this one is a serious battery drainer], browsing ever 30 mins, other apps).

I hope this works for a lot people, trying it wont harm you!

Ok i have seen what is causing a issue check out the app useage right at the bottom 47% in the last picture
Alot of any phone usesage are third party apps eg facebook and twitter
The other issue is were the phone came from its using a Euro Kernal and not a UK one
Now as this is a 4G the aerial is the same but the Kernal is sett for each country so the phone will be working harder
I have found shutting down 3G and just using 2G helps
Plus avaoid using third party apps for battery use as they can use the battery as well
the phone has one and it works
