Galaxy S5 Best Launcher

Being recent iOS convert I might give Aviate a try after looking at it.

Currently on Nova and so far I like it a lot, I tried Google and a couple others but so far I like the look and feel of Nova.

Are there any performance enhancements of Nova Prime over the standard free version? I like that I can have notification badges with it but I'm kind of holding off in purchasing any apps in case I for some reason decide I want to return the phone within the next 10 days of my 14-day return window.

Not really no, but you do get unread counts and more animations amongst other things.

Nova Prime is by far the best one overall for speed and features. I've tried pretty much all of them, APEX is pretty good but not as fast as Nova.

Apex is not as fast at default scrolling setting at 0. But set it to something like 10 and see how fast it is. You will be surprised. Also free version has more feature than Nova free.

Their scrolling setting scale is weird though. Default 0 is the middle speed and then smaller number closer to 0 is faster and bigger number is slower.

Holy SHT you are right!

How did you discovered this? It's even faster than Nova and smoother lol.

I saw someone mentioned it on the other forum last year. Setting the scroll time to 5 makes it even faster like almost instant home swiping. I normally set it to 10 or 20 as I prefer a little bit of transition effect.

Ya i've seen that in Apex, its no faster imo, Nova has instant home swiping too if you move your finger straight over. Or if you move it slowly then you will see the animation you might have set.

I have a stupid question. I just installed the free version of Nova to give it a try. I've noticed battery life being reduced, is this the default? As for the stupid question, what happens when a carrier delivers an update? Do I need to uninstall the app? I now it's nothing like rooting but I've never installed a different launcher.
Thanks!

Nova does not cause any battery drain, its coincidence and something else.

Nothing happens a launcher is just software and runs/sits ontop of your phones gui, Touchwiz. No you dont need to uninstall it but you can always switch back to Touchwiz if you need to. Nova enables you to do this (Select Default Home) or you can do it via a shortcut on your homescreen.

What you may find after a major update is that you get bugs with the launcher, but i've never seen it happen and if it did then the launcher would be updated by the developer pretty quickly anyway.

Thank you, I'm going to watch the battery drain a bit closer. I really like Nova Launcher and will definitely upgrade if battery is not an issue. It might be that I installed the Launcher on a 65% battery, but I've seen 30% drop since I installed it, with barely any use.

That shouldn't make any difference, its something else. Do the usual and shut it down, pull the battery, restart it, use it for a while, check your battery stats to see whats using the juice, it sounds more like another rogue app to me.

I'm a big fan of the Google Now Launcher. It's a lot faster than Touchwiz (though I was able to eventually tune that without any lag), I like how it automatically organizes all of my apps alphabetically, and I haven't had to do any tuning or messing around with it other than turning off Google Now (which seemed to intermittently consume vast amounts of battery). For me, it was all about installing something that wouldn't require a large amount of setup. I just wanted to install it and have everything work. Nova seems great but there's a lot of customization in there, far more than I care to deal with at the moment.

Did a battery pull and after a regular work day, the battery is draining the same before I installed the app. So it was something else. I'm definitely buying the Pro version. I like how the interface is really responsive. Thanks again.

I love GO Launcher EX prime. Has such a variety of everything. I bought Nova Prime... but dont like it to much.

Does Nova launcher on the S5 get rid of the my magazine page that is always on the left screen from the home screen?

You can get rid of that without Nova. It's an option that can be turned on and off. It can't be disabled on some Galaxy devices (like the Galaxy Tab Pro line) but it can be disabled on the S5.

Hello!
I'm a fresh S5 user unfamiliar with all those Samsung apps and features. I had Nexus 4 before and I have always used Nova Launcher Prime.
Is it good idea to use it also with S5? Will I loose any useful features after discarding stock Samsung launcher?
