Galaxy S5 - can't change lock screen wallpaper?

I have a Galaxy S5 and I have tried changing the lock screen wallpaper using the common method described (ie. tapping on a spot on homescreen and clicking set wallpaper for).

The problem is, when I do that, it does not give me the option of homescreen/lockscreen, but says "select wallpaper from" (options: gallary, live wallpapers, wallpapers). When I choose from pics in my gallary, it automatically sets it as homescreen wallpaper (no option for lockscreen).

The only time it works for the lockscreen is when it's in the "wallpaper" folder (the one with preset Samsung wallpapers). I've tried looking for this folder to add pictures to it, but I can't seem to locate the folder.

So, does anyone know where this folder is located or better yet, know of another way in which to set the wallpaper for the lockscreen from the gallery or other folders?

Open Gallery. Select a picture. Menu. Set as. You can choose homescreen, lock screen or both. Once you've dne it once, it's a 30 second procedure. (Remember to save the picture once you see it in the boxes showing how it will look in landscape and portrait. Backing out of Gallery won't make any change.)

The Verizon model does not have that option in the Gallery menu.

Well, your's does, but the OP's S5 and mine sure do NOT.

And it never has since day one clear back to April 11, 2014.

And, to his question, where is the Wallpaper folder at?
Why is it hidden from File manager?

Every single one of the stock supplied wallpapers is a POS.

I have the att s5 and every now and then my set as option will disappear (I have no idea why. It's back today though). I would have to push the edit option and once the edit screen comes up, I could then go back to the menu and click the set as option.

No joy here doing that...

Another way to set wallpaper is to tap settings and scroll to wallpaper. You then have 3 options to set wallpaper. Home screen, Lock screen, or Home and Lock screens..

True, but you don't have the choice of folder locations.

it only shows you what resides within the Wallpaper folder, and on my S5 that is only the POS stuff Samsung stuck there. I hate their designs. Impossible to even recognize the icons the colors are so nightmarish.

I have a vzw s5 and I downloaded a pic to the gallery and selected it as my wallpaper just as rukbat stated. It works just fine.

Gallery on mine does not have that menu listed....

However, I also have an app named "QuickPic" and it does have a similar menu and i can use it to make Wallpapers. I used it to set my LockScreen just fine.

I'm not worried about it, it is a minor bump in the road. I just move on and later I will discover what is wrong.

My first guess is that the app Gallery is out of date and not working correctly under 4.4.4 because I have Automatic Updates turned off. I do not allow updates unless i find a real good reason to update an app.

I have had more problems occur from unneeded updates than I have from not getting new updates.

I have noticed that my "Set as" option is available for certain filetypes (.PNG) while not available for others (JPEG). I'm not sure why this is the case though.

If you go through the settings/Wallpaper/Lockscreen then there should be a "More Images" option (far left of wallpapers on mine) that allows you to choose anything from your folders. (at least on my S5 from VZW)

This method will only work for root users...

With that said, all you will need to do is get a file explorer such as ES file explorer, allow superuser privileges then find the image you want to use as your lock screen background. Click copy then navigate to Device /system/wallpaper

You then should see your stock lock screen wallpaper labeled as something like "lockscreen_default_wallpaper" so add a 1 to the end of that(just in case you need or want to revert back to it for whatever reason, simply remove the 1) then name the image of your choice "lockscreen_default_wallpaper.whatever files extension you have" or if your default lock screen image's name was different simply rename your chosen image whatever that one is called minus the "1" you have added. Close ES file explorer and press the power button. Press it again and you should be looking at your lock screen, if not then you mag need to reboot your device then it should be working!

Enjoy :)

Yes the drop down menu is longer than can be displayed on screen. Just swipe down to see the rest of the menu.

As you can see from your own screenshot, you aren't at the bottom of your menu.

For some reason today my lock screen wallpaper changed to a photo of a bloke if never seen before. And it won't let me change it back. I've tried every way possible. I only factory reset my phone yesterday so don't really want to do it again as take time to reinstall everything. Could some one please help. Thanks

Here is a simple step, by step as how to change eithet wallpaper or both.
1. Open galery
2. Select the photo that you want tap it once.
3. Tap the three little squares in the upper right corner.
4. You will get a drop down menu, scroll down to "set as " tap it.
5 you will get a window that will allow you to select which option you want, lock screen or home screen.

One thing I'm experiencing, since I did the software update, is that my home screen wallpaper keeps changing on its own. The lock screen stays as I set it, but home screen will randomly change to another photo I have stored in my gallery. I read in another thread about an app, Nova Launcher.I even tried that and it still changed.... :-\ It's getting on my nerves to say the least.

I'm having this problem too. My phone doesn't give me the option to change my wallpaper. If you go to "save as" you get "wallpaper" and instead of giving you the home and lock screen options it just takes you to where it crops the photo for the home screen. My wallpaper has been stuck as a default image and it's pissing me off.
