Galaxy S5 Custom?

Whenever I start up my phone it tells me its 'custom' and gives me a padlock sign even when I'd only bought it?
It also gives me an option to use 'safestrap' which my friend told me was not the normal part of the samsung operating system.
Also when I go to my phone status in 'about phone' I also get told that my device status is custom.
I can also not use very main features on this device, including it will not get recognised by any computers via usb, so I was wondering whether this could be connected. I am currently running version 4.4.2
I did not buy the device officially and it came from an ebay seller where it was apparantly an ex-shop model.
Is it possible that my device does not have official software and could have had custom roms installed?

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 41 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 6 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1, Android 5.0.2 and Android 5.1.1. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone INFO ?Samsung? and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. To see if your phone is rooted, download and install, free from the Play Store, Root Checker

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

Hello, this thread is probably old now but here:
Model Number: SM-G900F
Android version: 4.4.2

Version:

AP: G900FXXU1ANJ1
CP: G900AUCU2AND3
CSC: G900FXEO1ANJ1

I forgot to state that I rooted my phone using towel root andoid downloadable :/ (for some reason nothing worked)
So, yeah root checker tells me I'm rooted.

Before I rooted my phone I still had the problems listed above and rooting has changed nothing, I still cannot connect my phone to any pc.

Enter... *#0808# into your keypad to bring up, "USBSettings", menu. Select, "AP", and then, in turn, select each, "USB Setting", and reboot and see if you can get a connection. Connect directly to the PC and not via a hub and use the original USB cable that came with the phone. Also, try different USB ports on your PC, each time.

TIP: MTP+ADB works for me.
