Galaxy s5 keeps disconnecting from WiFi?

You need to tap the 3 dots icon in the top right exposing a menu, tap advanced. Then the smart network checkbox is on the top of the list.

I've had my S5 since last July with no problems cropping up.

Just this week my S5 started acting funky. It kept dropping my wifi connection & immediately reconnected - over & over. A few times the S5 rebooted itself. Yesterday it got hot & ran the battery down quickly probably due to all the wifi dropping & reconnecting. I tried a number of different things before I realized it might be the repeated dropping & reconnecting. That's when I unchecked the Smart Network Switching. It seems to be OK now. Time will tell I suppose.

Does anyone know the best way to notify Samsung about this?

If you have the Galaxy S5, go to Settings, then tap Wi-Fi under Quick Settings. It should be the first setting listed on the Galaxy S5. In the upper right hand corner tap on the three vertical dots. This will bring up "Advanced" as a choice. Tap on advanced and scroll down. You will see a choice that says "Smart Network Switch." UNCHECK IT. This will prevent the phone from going back and forth between a Wi-Fi connection and a 3G or 4G connection. I had the exact same problem and I knew the signal from my router was just fine because I had a strong signal throughout the house with my notebook computer and my other wireless devices.

My Galaxy 5 Active has been stable until this latest update this past week and then my wifi went wonky.
It would connect and then disconnect after a minute this causing other issues while surfing.
I turned off the smart Network Switch and so far it is staying connected.
I guess the only question is once I go out of range of the wifi will it switch back to cellular data, and vise versa when I arrive back in wifi range, or will I have to manually change from wifi to phone?

I also noticed from this update that my phone has slowed down, and the battery is only lasting 7 hours instead of 15 hours.

I had the same problem with my S5 immediately after the software updated 2 days ago. Before that I had no problems with holding the WIFI connection.

WIFI disconnecting then reconnecting. My battery life went from 36 hours down to approximately 8. Increased rear panel temperature close to the power button, which I am asuming is the WIFI antena (spelling).

I have now turned off the Smart Network Switch option and I will see.

Thanks for the advice.

I've experienced the same, just after the big 1Gb "Update to Android 5".
Switched-off the smart switch and all came back to normal...

Thanks a lot, Mr Samsung ;)

Thank You! Was having the same issues on multiple networks... (Just recently started doing it in the past week). Not only was it annoying as heck off and on connecting while using the phone, it was draining the battery really fast.

Thanks for the simple fix!

Really should read the thread first, sorry...

Sorry if I'm repeating an answer here, but have you considered disabling "Smart network switch" under WiFi? If you have a weak network connection Smart switch will put you back onto your carriers network to maintain the quality of the connection...

More accurately:

Settings > Network Connections > Wi-Fi > the top entry is the Smart Network Switch. Uncheck the box and it stops cycling the connection to your WiFi. We have two Galaxy S5s and they were both doing the same annoying thing. None of the other WiFi electronics in the house were doing it. And… It's a recent problem so it's some infernal Android update that hosed the Smart Network Switch.

My wife and I both have these phones, turned off Smart Network as soon as we received them months ago, and recently we have been having the same issue. The wifi network will disconnect then reconnect over and over.

Has anyone else had this issue, but not had the Smart Network switch work?

I found this too, I was advised to take my battery out for 10s and then replace and it seems to have worked. Mediaserver was taking up 47% of battery now it's back down to 5%

Agree with everyone else's comment that you turn off smart network switch and it no longer disconnects.

I've done that and can still repeat the problem
I find it will come back if I go to Mobile networks under setting -> More Networks and change it to something else (which causes a reboot) I've also tried clearing the cache partition and this intermittent (but consistent) problem occurs where the wifi connects then disconnects - like if up / if down commands - this is not an access point problem - GS3 sitting next to GS5 does connect and stay connected just fine.
