Knox has been a pain in the neck for many people using the S3 and S4 on 4.3
Seems like Samsung is locking down their OS with Knox being in the bootloader.
Do you guys think we'll still see it in the S5? I'd love to have a standard edition and a Knox edition, that way anyone who needs the added security can pick it up at a cost of maybe $50/100 more.

Amazing, I can actually hear hundreds of thousands of S4 owners through my computer screen saying, "Please no please no please no ...":p

I really like the idea of a 'Business Edition' or something to that effect. Great Idea, UJ! Now if only Sammy execs will see this post and go with it!!

A good point here UJ95x!

I can see this being a debated topic well into the future as OEM's explore more ways to lock their devices down so it appeals more to the business world that depends on tight security.

I would expect KNOX to be in the S5.

I would expect KNOX to be in the S5.

And a form of it with most new phones. People want to bring their own device to work that allows it, and sysadmins will only allow secure phones.

There is blood in the water, blackberries. Everyone will want a peice

Knox ruined my d2vzw's ability to flash custom ROMs, but at least I managed to root it. I really like Samsung hardware and the ability to use my microSD card, but TouchWiz makes me so frustrated. Samsung is not going to remove Knox from the S5. I feel like Android is becoming more hostile towards the development and modding communities. However, the majority of users expect security from their devices and could care less about flashing custom ROMs and using root apps. /my possibly stupid $.02

No, it makes perfect sense :)
Sammy advertised Knox as a security feature, but I think it was their front for locking down their device. Most people aren't concerned with security on the level that Knox is supposed to deliver. That kind of security makes sense for corporate phones and such, but not for the average consumer.

Basically the same old Sammy with "feature candy" buzz words to make their device seem superior.

Loved last week's podcasts where they mentioned what were the last phones they paid for and do they still root/ROM. Basically, buy a phone that meets your needs up front. It'll save you the headaches.

Actually you are mistaken.
KNOX only provides the security you are talking about if you buy a Mobile Device Management (MDM) from a third party.
Very few companies do this. Most companies will you the exchange policy feature to enforce passwords or encryption.

KNOX was put in place so that Samsung along with General Dynamics could sell secure devices. The GD Sectera Edge is long in the tooth.
It also allows Samsung to completely lock down and control your device after you have bought it.

I doubt that the S5 won't have it baked in.
If it does not initially, buy the device early (S4 with MDK as an example).

I didn't root or attempt to do anything on my Note 3 and it worked just fine. But Knox is a PITA, if they want it on the phone then do so for corporate users but drop the crap already its my phone and I WILL DO WHAT I WANT!

and my device is not locked down all that much. Took no time to break through. Most of the bootloader locking comes from the carrier.

But if you break through KNOX it trips the counter and "voids" the warranty if they want to enforce it. I should be allowed to break the bootloader, install/remove what I want and if I brick it I bought it and its my problem. I have bricked my phone and spent hours fixing it, lesson learned and I took ownership of it. I also learned a lot.
