Galaxy S5: Mirrorlink Compatability

Regarding MirrorLink: It seems the driving factor is having a compatible app. This is why Sygic and a very small handful of others (like DriveLink for the Galaxy S3) work. I have a Verizon S5 on Android 5.0 and have been able to use MirrorLink apps like Sygic and Aupeo on my Pioneer "AppRadio" head unit.

What really needs to happen for MirrorLink to be viable is there to be a MirrorLink-compatible dashboard app for DriveLink, that works on all Android phones. I wonder if those apps were dependent on security being more open than it is in some builds of Android L that are out there. Otherwise, the protocol is pretty useless to have.

I think Android Auto will be replacing Mirror Link - just my thought tho.

Same problem here:

I have A samsung Note 3 with lollipop that I try to conenct to my skoda superb 2016 Columbus infotainment system.
Mirror link is enabled in the phone and it says the usb cable is connected, but as soon as I tap on the infotainment screen to conenct to my samsung device (in connected devices) I see it tries to connect and a few seconds later I see that mirror link crashes on my phone because it gets disabled.

Android car however just works out of the box

I don't think android car will replace mirror link because they serve different purposes.

S5 has MirrorLink 1.1

I can't find what version of MirrorLink the Skoda uses. Might try ensuring your Infotainment system is fully up to date, but 1.1 is not backwards compatible with 1.0.
