Galaxy S5 - unread email issue

Yes, exact same issue here. It just suddenly stopped syncing between my desktop and my mobile around 2-3 weeks ago and have previously worked fine before that. Not sure what's changed? I haven't altered any settings and it's very annoying!!

From an above user, he recommended the below
Setting the "Period to Sync" to fewer days was essentially accomplishing the same for most people since the size and number of messages would typically not be greater than the 50k default. So ...

Email > Settings > [Each Account] > Sync Settings > Limit retrieval size > select "No Limit"

When I go into my S5, I see this path to correct it Email > Settings > (display, default display, Priority sender settings, Spam addresses and Delay email sending) I do not see SYNC SETTINGS

help anyone?

I just made the changes, should this occur after the phone reboots? I rebooted my phone (S5) and its still shows over 40 emails in my trash when there are none!

This is insane!!!
That stupid app just shows last month of emails, then loading rest of them and they again are UNREAD!!!
It does not matter, that I mark them all as read, they just disappear, and then are synced again.. and guess what, UNREAD again.
It is like it can only frikin remember last month worth of emails and older ones are constantly unread, hate this BS!!!

Maybe I figured this out.
1) you need to be on wi fi because depending on how many emails you have, this can take a lot of data.
2) go to email settings - manage accounts - sync settings - limit retrieval size and set no limit (including attachments)
3) go to email settings - manage accounts - swipe down and press more settings - under data usage select Total
sync it, it will load EVERYTHING from server and then you can mark it all as read.

So far so good, closed app, opened, synced, number of mails stays the same and does not show old emails as unread anymore.

I had the same problem. I have changed sync setting-> period to sync email to 3 days. Cannot believe all of the time I had wasted on this. This worked immediately.

Had my boss call me with an identical issue... Emails on an imap server wouldn't update status after initially syncing. So his spam filter on his mac would toss spam out of the inbox but he would still be swimming in it on his phone. Emails he read on his mac would be unread on his phone.

Trying the 3 days to sync setting did not help.

We ended up switching him to using IMAP on the GMail app, that worked.
