Galaxy S5 vs. HTC One (M8)

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

Before the M8 announcement, I was leaning towards it over the S5 or Note 3. Now I kind of want my Note 3 back..or maybe the S5? So many choices lol. I'll play with an S5 and M8 this weekend and decide.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced.....

Why not the Note 3? Unless that is took big. My wife's upgrade is coming this summer. I hope she picks the Note 3 over the S5. I have the Note 2 and by far is the best phone I have owned. Not saying the S5 is bad or anything I just want to play with her note if that is what she decides to get. hahah haha

The Note 3 was something I thought about but it is to close to the size of my nexus 7(2013). The S5 will be the perfect size.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced.....

Actually.....if the Nexus 5 was on Verizon's network. I would be all over it.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced.....

I like that the One is metal but I still don't like the design. It looks... plain. The S5 looks great in person (better than the publicity shots led me to believe) so I'm OK that it isn't metal. Plus, the small bells and whistles of the S5, while not critical, make it more fun. Does the M8 even have a fingerprint scanner? I didn't read the release very closely.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced.....

I was leaning toward the S5 already, but now that I've read and watched the M8 review, for me it's S5 confirmed. M8 is a nice enough phone and all but it seems thoroughly underwhelming. And the water resistance of the S5 is a very attractive feature for me.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

I'm still happy with my preorder of the s5. The m8 is a nice looking phone though and I hope it makes the people who want to purchase it happy.

S5 for me....removable battery alone keeps me with Samsung

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

s5 is actually *not water proof.
It is water resistant... meaning u are not supposed to submerge it in water.

it can be submerged

samsung says can be submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 min

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

I preordered the S5 on Friday. Today I went to AT&T's website and saw that the M8 was released. I was immediately torn between the 2 phones. The M8 is straight out a much sharper looking device. I love the metal build and the 2 front speakers. I went to cancel my preorder on the S5 and thought I would instead get the M8. However...as fate would have it...I can't cancel the preorder until the S5 is shipped to me. Well...that is what made me decide to instead get the S5. I don't have any real qualms about the S5. I'm happy that I will be getting it instead of the M8. I understand that some people are upset that Samsung did not change the appearance of the S5...that it looks like it looks like the S4. I'm coming from a Nexus 4 and this is my first Samsung phone so that doesn't bother me at all. I do think the Super AMOLED screens look much better than LCD. The HTC One is a very sharp looking phone and I can't wait to see what HTC does with it down the line when I can do another upgrade.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

2. battery life (desipte smaller battery life, htc claimed 40% more battery life due to new chip)

Engadget backs that claim up with: As much as we like power, we love battery life even more. The M8 comes with a 2,600mAh battery inside, which is 300mAh larger than last year's version. The most important battery test we conduct on any smartphone is the real-life usage test -- ya know, actually using the phone as our daily driver. We tested the One for a week, and at the end of most days of moderate use we had around 30 percent left when it was time to go to bed.

On days with heavier use, the tank was much closer to empty, but we rarely had to run for the nearest outlet. In comparison, this is a vast improvement over the original One, This improvement was echoed in our standard video rundown test, in which our unit yielded nearly 11.5 hours while looping a high-def video eternally. Considering the M7 only made it 6.5 hours on the same test, we'd call that good news indeed.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

I want both, but I'm getting the S5. The promise of frequent software updates, a better camera, and longer battery life sold it for me.

The S5 has more battery life right? Because the S5's battery is 200 mAh more than the M8's battery.

It should since they have about the same screen size, If anything it will be only slightly better, like the s4 was compared to the m7. Plus the new snapdragon processor is really supposed to help with battery and the m8 is seeing that so I am sure samsung will as well since they are usually pretty good with optimization for battery life.

You can already slip a spare in.

I'm coming from the Nexus 4. I gotta say... As excited I am about getting my S5.. I'm not looking forward to bloatware and slow OS updates.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

S5, all the way. I was only curious about the HTC One M8 announcement because I like phones. I also wanted to know what the final name of the phone would be! I didn't seriously consider buying the One M8, though.

I used to care about quick updates but then with all of the useful additions that manufacturers add(that stock lacks) they took a back seat. That and I got tired of being a beta tester essentially with nexus devices. Plus with google and other manufacturers putting many of their apps in the play store, you no longer need a total OS update to have the latest google play services/manufacturer apps.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

Would you rather have the iPhone 6 s5 or m8?

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

The M8's huge bezel and on screen buttons make it a no brainer for me. S5 for sure.

Re: Now that the HTC was announced, S5 or M8?

I wish Samsung would add the gestures to unlock like lg and HTC have. Other than that there is nothing that draws me to the m8.
