Galaxy S5 vs HTC One (M8)

Re: SG5 vs M8

Because the one complaint of the original One (the camera) has been improved a bit, the design is FAR superior, build materials are better (particularly the stainless steel gray model), the battery life is outstanding, the speakers are the best of any smartphone, and it has a 5MP front-facing camera. Samsung has gotten so stale and boring, just like Apple. They have no fight left because they're the top Android OEM.

By design, you omit ergonomics. The N5 has the best of any phone out there. Buttons are perfectly placed and easy to use. The N5, despite having a 5" screen, is a cinch to use one-handed whereas both the Old One and the New One are very difficult to use one handed because of their button placement and size. I'd say the design of the N5 is excellent.

The N5 is nice. But I've never had the desire to purchase one so I don't tend to talk about it much.

Well, if we must introduce a discussion of ergonomics the G2 wins that, IMO, and beats the N5 in all but price.

Haven't used it but I think ergonomics is overlooked when talking about design.

Re: SG5 vs M8

The N5 is not better than the Galaxy S5, and I'm not sure how anyone can realistically come to that conclusion.

As for the M8 vs S5, I'd totally go with the S5. The M8 makes you wonder what HTC was doing for a whole year...

Re: SG5 vs M8

The S5 is better than the M8. The Nexus 5 is better than both of them.

I dont agree with this argument !

Re: SG5 vs M8

People who say that Sense 6 is a great advantage over Touchwiz on the S5 haven't played with the S5.

Agree. Touchwiz on the s5 is just about buttery smooth compared to touchwiz of old. I was surprised how smooth it was after having an s4 and seeing some early hands on with the s5 from the announcement.

the old drop test... s5 held up surprisingly well.

Re: SG5 vs M8

Galaxy S5 and HTC M8 both sound fabulous phones to me. Camera pixel is also stunning I didn?t find anything disappointed so far. I?m thinking to give M8 a shot :)

If I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I'm wrong) with the M8 you can snap a pic and then apply cool camera effects after the fact. With the S5 you have to choose the appropriate mode first before you take the pic. That would be an advantage for the M8 I guess.

Honestly if the M8 had an 8 mp camera with the same features it has now there would be no contest. As it is now I'm leaning towards the S5. I wish the S5 had stayed the same size as the S4 was last year though.

I've had M8 for a little over a week after breaking my old S3, and I just preordered the S5 as a replacement (all on Verizon). Fortunately I'm on a business account, so I get 30 days and the $35 fee is waived. The M8 has problems that weren't apparent until I used it.... worst thing is that the touch screen is really poor, even in comparison with my old S3. Not the image quality -- that's great --- but the touch sensitivity and accuracy. Damn thing hangs up on calls nearly every time I pull it out of my pocket to answer one, and more than half the time I click the screen to open an app, it opens the wrong one. I don't usually have fat finger issues, but on this phone I can't avoid them. Other issues: I'm scared to death of taking this phone out to answer a call in the rain, because the first time I did the screen stopped responding, and the speakers seem like an easy place for lots of water to get into quickly. Speaking of the speakers, they're nice for speaker phone, but certainly not something I'd listen to music on any more than I would on any other phone (LOL at the selling point that the speakers make the M8 the phone for audiophiles -- if you care about sound quality at all, you still need external speakers). And the on-screen buttons are a huge waste of space. The usable screen space on the M8 is 5mm shorter than my S3 even though the phone is a cm taller. A full 1 3/4" of the M8's height is completely wasted real estate. And finally, though the M8 boots up super quickly, regular use is laggy compared to my rooted S3 (which was debloated, running Beanstown's new Alliance ROM).

Considering picking up one of these as my next phone. The camera quality is one of the biggest selling points for me. At first I thought the G5 was the hands down winner, especially with the new ISOCell sensor. However, spending some time looking at both, I'm impressed that the M8 offers some manual controls such as ISO and Shutterspeed. Being a photo enthusiast, I'm very impressed that these functions are available on the M8. Any idea if such options are user adjustable on the S5?
