Re: S5 Water Damage - Help ASAP

I suggest getting a new phone. It will probably cost a lot to fix anyways.

Also, the rice method only works when done immediately. Once it's wet, you don't touch anything and just bury it in rice.It won't restore it perfectly, but at least it's usable.

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

Verizon shouldn't cover it, it's not their phone, it's Samsung's phone. And people are morons, for they believe that the water rating means they can go swimming with the phone on them. Pure stupidity. It's for accidents, like dropping it in a bathtub for a second.

#FAIL

so you're saying that if it's an accident it should be covered or that it should not fail

I believe what he is saying is that the product (phone) should be guaranteed by the manufacturer (Samsung) not the service provider (Verizon). The service provider generally tries to sell you some type of insurance coverage to cover loss/theft/damage/etc, but obviously they can't be expected to absorb the cost of every dumb mistake by a user or manufacturing defect.

Re: Water Damaged S5 was NOT Covered by Verizon!

I know that it's "water resistant", with that I treat it like any other phone (like a newborn baby) and if it gets wet I'll deal with it.... No chance that I would take my s5 in the pool????????????

My exact thoughts. "water resistance" isn't an invitation to try and immerse your phone in liquids. If you push anything to its' limits, you'll break it.

Hey BSR,

I should have shortened the quote to what's above, sorry. I was wondering if what is KMR saying means that accidents should be covered by mfg (or VRZ depending on your take)

It goes back to that grey area of expectation:
"Should the phone survive accidents if it is promoted to do so?"

It's not unlike talking politics, eh?

Not the fact that it's made in China, hell nearly everything under the sun is made in China. More or less the fact that it's being shipped from China. I tend to avoid buying electronics and such from overseas being if , heaven forbid, I run into a problem or get some that's DOA I don't have to deal with "ChEnglish" emails back and forth, then return an item in the hopes of either getting a refund or replacement a month or two after the original order.
Yes, the odds are better the item will work just fine, but there's that chance of it being faulty.
I'd simply rather pay a few bucks more to ensure if there are problems, I can talk to someone that will likely speak actual English, I can potentially talk to on the phone rather than waiting 24-72hrs for a reply, and can return the package within a few days.

I do appreciate your input on the device though.

I Don't Know About YOUR Water Resistant Phone, But Mine...

doesn't even seem to be moisture resistant. There have now been 4 incidents so I feel I can safely say my phone is hyper allergic to moisture (for a water resistant phone).
1. It got a few small drops of water on the screen when the grandkids were in the pool. Phone screen would do NOTHING. Couldn't turn it off, wouldn't respond even after drying it off. It took 10-15 minutes for it to work again.

2. Took it out in the rain (drizzle) briefly to snap a picture. Phone became unresponsive.

3 & 4. Had it in my air jetted tub...not IN the water! It was fairly steamy in the bathroom. I didn't see any water on the phone (I was trying not to get it wet) but my hands were damp. Again, unresponsive. I got the feeling the steam in the air affected it.

I've never done any of the things people here have...haven't taken it river rafting, swimming, dropped it in the toilet. I've been very careful. I've used my Moto Droid while in my air jetted tub, exact same environment and it had no problem working as it should. Is my S5 overly sensitive to moisture? Is this a cause for replacement? I never intended to go swimming with my S5 but this seems extreme for a phone that is supposed to water resistant. Phone is stock with original battery.

I had same thing happened to me , my fingers were wet and touch the screen no response..

Re: I Don't Know About YOUR Water Resistant Phone, But Mine...

That makes me wonder if there is some build defect that is allowing moisture to get in more easily. I'd take it back and ask for a replacement.

Call your carrier and ask if they will exchange it. Otherwise Samsung should cover this under the warranty. Try your carrier first... Samsung can be a bit difficult.

Re: I Don't Know About YOUR Water Resistant Phone, But Mine...

I used mine with wet hands in the Adriatic sea to snap pictures. Granted I didn't submerge it but my hands were wet and so was the screen, no usability problems encountered.

It acts similarly to every other phone with water on the screen when attempting to use it. it'll "see" you touch it, but will it's 50/50. Either it will register the correct touch, OR it will think you're touching else where on the screen. But all touches are "felt"

Re: I Don't Know About YOUR Water Resistant Phone, But Mine...

My co-worker submerged his into a fish bowl, completely submerged left it there for like 10 minutes.. it accepted calls and everything.

took it out, wiped it off on his shirt and it worked perfectly. We proceeded to dunk it in the fish bowl for minutes at a time and it continued to work fine.

I'd call your carrier and tell them yours is having issues.

Dropped S5 in water - turns on then restarts

Hello, this is the first time I am doing this so here it goes ...Unfortunately, i dropped my phone into the water and with my amazing luck the corner of the back cover had just popped off a little ( some water got in). I took it out of the water almost immediately and dried everything off. I couldn't rice bowl it till I got back home which was about 3-4 hours ( but the phone and battery was wrapped up mummy style till i got home). I have left the phone in the rice and a silicone ball bag for about 4-5 days. I took it out last night to try it out and it turned on for about 5 seconds however it would restart itself. I was wondering if anyone has had this experience with their phones and did the phone ever come back from that screen. Since last night I have placed it back into the rice bowl. My issue is that I am afraid of turning it back on again if there is water fearing that it might short circuit something. Can someone suggest any ways to fix this?

I ve had this phone for a month.. and again with my luck.. this was the only phone I had owned that didnt have insurance. -_-
