Galaxy S6 turning off useful background apps

I have a Galaxy S6 running Android 5.1.1, and I've been using several apps that do their work in the background. I have a couple of scheduling programs to mute/unmute the phone during certain times and certain calendars events (Phone Scheduler and Mute-o-Matic). I also use a screen dimmer app (Twilight) that is also scheduled to turn on and off daily.

The problem is that these apps work inconsistently. Sometimes the phone will not be muted or unmuted until I manually start the app that was supposed to do it. When I use the phone at night, the screen dimmer sometimes suddenly turns off until I go and start the app.

I tried turning off App Optimization, but other than that I don't know where to look for. I've tried to Google around, but mostly people are looking to turn off background apps rather than keep them alive.

I used these same apps with my old HTC One (M7) and they worked perfectly. My S6 is running stock Samsung stuff, and I haven't made any system-level modifications.

I would like to know how to fix this because I depend on these kinds of apps to keep my phone quiet during meetings etc. Thanks.

Re: Galaxy S6 turning off useful background apps

Well, Lollipop has a stock setting called Priority Mode. You can use that to mute your phone and allow only certain notifications (or none) during specific period of times.

It worked flawlessly for me =)

^^^not really the point

The Galaxy S6 has a huge ram problem (that's supposedly fixed in 6.0.1?) I can't even keep Pandora on while doing certain things it'll just quit by itself.

The only thing you could do is wait for your phone to get the latest update and it should fix your problem OR flash the newest software to your phone but I have no idea on how to do that

Re: Galaxy S6 turning off useful background apps

Maybe a stupid question, but do you have POWER SAVE mode on? If so that would stop any apps the phone saw as unnecessary from using power in the background

Re: Galaxy S6 turning off useful background apps

Ok. I'll see if I can get rid of the problem with the Android 6 update, since it's just around the corner.

Instead of switching to other apps, I would really like to continue using the ones I have, since there's no reason they shouldn't work on a high-end phone like this.

I have it so that power saving doesn't kick in until 20% battery, and it pretty much never goes down that far.

I was pretty confident you were on top of that, but figured I would toss it out there just in case.

Re: Galaxy S6 turning off useful background apps

I've read recent reports saying the ram management has been fixed and some saying no such thing...

HOWEVER I have seen youtube videos of people playing and switching between high graphic games with no problem, I've tried with my 5.1.1 G920i and they quit right away SO here's to hoping its fixed

I have this problem on my Huawei mediapad m2 8.0. The device just kills background apps. It has 2 GB RAM, but it's RAM usage is just so low... In order to keep the apps running not only I have to keep them launched, I also have to visit them every now and then. The only apps that have managed to make it through the protection are gmail, messenger and deezer. But even other IM programs like kik get shut down once I close them (while android 4.4. always kept it on background).
