Galaxy S6 unresponsive and requiring reboot. What to do?

Twice in the past week I got my phone out and it was off and unresponsive. I had to do soft boot with power volume down to get the phone working. This is something that I have not experienced with other android phones. I am on Verizon with stock Galaxy S6 running 5.0.2.

Is this a defective phone or some application causing problems. What steps can I take to troubleshoot the problem? Who would I turn to for help?

Having my phone randomly stop working is unacceptable as this is my primary line. I can't afford to miss calls. I need to get this fixed.

Mine did that earlier this week. I sent it back to Verizon and got a new one.

Have things been good since replacing phone?

We called Samsung yesterday and they tried blaming it on apps. Instructed us to put phone in safe mode for 24 hours and then add apps back one at a time. Since this has only occurred 3 times in 7-10 days that seems like silly advice to me. I got phone through Costco, now I wish I had bought from Verizon directly.
