Galaxy S6/Verizon. The screen won't unlock during a phone call.

When my phone screen is locked/dark and I receive a phone call, it doesn't unlock the phone. So if I receive a call and need to check a text I can't. The screen either returns to black or just remains on the call screen. No matter what buttons I push the screen is locked out. I used to be able to pull down the info bar and access the text or alert or press the left arrow and check email, etc.

How can I fix this?

this is the normal behaviour if you are using pin, password, fingerprint or other secure lock screen. if you need to access other apps during a call you have to unlock first.

How do I back out from the call screen to unlock?
