Galaxy S8 and S8+ to be even more expensive than previously thought

That's the thing. It will take more conscious consumers to realize their options when it comes to purchasing a new phone and evaluating their priorities in terms of features.

There are probably some subscribers out there that only roll with Samsung because they don't know what else is out there. Or maybe they truly love the devices and are satisfied with their experience each time they upgrade.

I imagine there are some out there that just walk in to the carrier store, let the sales person dictate what they get and just roll with whatever Next payments are handed to them. (I witnessed a Best Buy mobile sales person blatantly push an elder person into an S7 because they had an S5.)

If the S8 and S8+ turns out to be too expensive for alot of people, I hope they exercise the right discretion in making their decision. IMO, if the device isn't selling well, then Samsung will start to throw even more bonuses in. If the device still doesn't sell as much as they'd like, then a price drop would be in order.
I'm doing to try to hold off till December. Verizon did a pretty good promo on the S7 edge, you got it free with 24 monthly credits. It's like a 2 year contract and its free. Waiting is easier said then done though. LOL

To each his own. Most people don't stop to think about what it really costs as they're "dazzled" by a new phone and the monthly payment is manageable. I like number crunching and discussing hypothetical situations.

With AT&T, the way one would "own" the device in 2 years on a NEXT plan is if they do the NEXT every year, and pay $40 each month to make up the difference incurred over the extra 6 months.
And this thinking is why phones keep going up IMO. I wonder how many would change their thinking if they had to throw down a $1,000 before taking phone home. Since people are paying retail for phones now competition would be a good thing now.

Anybody know why places like Walmart hasn't gotten into mass selling cell phones? Get the carrier sales guys out of the mix and stop paying them commissions phones could drop with Department stores selling them. Just a thought

Wal-mart sells phones but not the newest releases It's a few months after they come out with the new iphones and Galaxys that they then sell the latest model. I wish more retailers sold phones and would make more competition. I hate having to always buy my phone from tmobile.

First off, no offense intended. My first comment was in jest.
Secondly, that AT&T Next program sounds like a bad deal. Glad I'm not with them. If I had to keep a phone 18 months or more, I would most likely pay it off and not hand it back to them and lose all of the money I put into it.

None taken. I totally get that we're all just sharing our perspectives on what the best value is. Carriers, such as AT&T, do a good job at convincing people that the highest priced phones are affordable with a monthly plan.

Come to think of it, the NEXT and other similar leasing plans is very much like leasing a car and purchasing a maintenance plan. Buyer pays for taxes up front and makes monthly payments for the term. The maintenance plan takes care of the oil changes, tire rotations, air filters so the customer really doesn't have to worry about expenses during the term. After its all said and done, return the car and get a new one.

The same with phones. You're guaranteed software updates for 2 years, 1 year manufacturers warranty, and have the option to get insurance. I guess it's just the price people pay for convenience and quickly aging tech.

I'm starting to wonder if just paying 80% of the phone's value and insurance every month is the way to go.
