Galaxy S8+ pictures to one person are sent as group conversation

For some reason, my good lady's AT&T S8+ will send pictures as a separate group conversation with two people in it, me and her. If I respond to that, I get my own text message come back to me as an incoming comment.

In this instance, she is only sending pictures to me, there is no-one else included (I know because I just sat with her and we did it together).

This has only just started happening. Prior to this, all pictures she sent to me were just sent in the normal text message thread we have between the two of us. She is using the stock SMS app. Anyone know how I can stop this please?

Open messages>tap 3 dots upper right>settings>more settings>mms>make sure send as mms default is turned off
