Question Google Messages app on new phone makes many two-person convos into groups

I just went from a Moto e6 to a Galaxy A15 5G. I used Smart Switch and overall, it went well. But I opened Google Messages app and discovered that many of my text conversations (between me and one other person) were split up into two strings of conversations -- and the content of the original single conversation was divided among the two separate strings, with one string having some of the texts and pics, and the other with other texts and pics from the same, original conversation. AND one of the strings has added my phone number (just the phone number, not my name) as a separate person from me and made it a group! (Me, my number, and the other person) Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks.

PS: And...almost all the pictures from these previous conversations are blurred, with a little download arrow and "Tap to save" super-imposed on each of the pictures. (but all new pics included in these threads [that I have added since I discovered the problem] are clear and have nothing super-imposed on them) Also -- I am not sure exactly when this all happened. It could have happened immediately when I Smart Switched, or it could have happened when I updated the Messages app earlier today.

I did that just now. And everything appeared to be back to normal with the Samsung messages app, then I went back to Google Messages and nothing had changed - stilled messed up.

Hmm
Maybe let it settle for a bit in google message, sometimes it can do strange things like this
I did restart my phone, but the problem with Google messages didn't change

Perhaps I will just use Samsung's app. I do not have (nor do I want) a Samsung account. If I do start using Samsung's messages app, will that make any problems for me that wouldn't be problem if I was using google's messages app?

You will probably get notifications to use Google messages as the newer Samsung like my Fold 6 don't come pre-installed

I would give Google messages a day to repopulate like Samsung messages, back everything up on PC Samsung Smart switch that way you have a back up and restore anytime but do this back up with Samsung messages

The problem with Google messages app is still happening. I have been using Samsung messages app and it is ok.

I think i discovered part of the problem. I went in to settings/advanced in Google's messages app and discovered that there is no phone number associated with the app (that's why the app is adding my phone number as an additional number and making two person text convos into three-person groups by adding my number as the third person). It says "phone number unknown". But the words are grayed out and I am unable to add my number...

Any idea how to fix this? I would like to use Google messages if I can get it to work correctly.

The problem with Google Messages app continues, so I am still using Samsung's Messages app. I think that this problem might have happened during the Smart Switch transfer of Google's Messages app from my old phone to my new phone. Would it help if I uninstalled the Google Messages app and then reinstalled it? Would that cause any problems with my contacts or previous text messages?

I think I heard something getting a new sim fixed similar issue like yours

Is there any problem with uninstalling and reinstalling Google Messages app? That's a lot easier to try than getting a new sim card.
No everything should repopulate, always back them up through Samsung account on device and Google back up is on , never had anything happen but never know.
