Newbie here. I'm trying to copy video files from a Tab A8 to a Samsung portable SSD however I'm always met with "Failure Read Only File System Error". Is there a setting I've missed? Is this a permissions issue of the original file, the galaxy device, or the SSD? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It Worked!! The SSD was formated in NTFS (default). I re-formatted in FAT32 as you suggested, and success! All files now transfer. Thank you for your guidance.

Welcome to Android Central! Where are the video files located on the tablet? If they're in a protected system directory (e.g., a video file downloaded by a streaming app), that would be a reason why you can't manipulate the file.

Thanks for the quick response. I've downloaded mp4 video files from my camera (DJI Pocket 3) to the TabA8 and now want to transfer those files onto an SSD. This sounds a bit convoluted, but I will be travelling and won't have a laptop to load the mp4 files directly. As the SSD is not recognized as a connected device by my camera, I have to use the Tab A8 as an 'intermediary' device. I note that I can download the mp4 file from both the camera and the Tab A8 to my laptop, no problem there - just getting the files onto the SSD seems to be the issue. As the volume of video files will be sizeable, I need to be able to download to a large capacity drive.
I hope I've been reasonably clear about my issue. Hopefully there is a solution.

What directory are the video files in? Also, are you able to transfer other files from the tablet to the SSD?

Thank you, yes I have tried the 'Move' function but I get the same error message. The files I am trying to move are located in the tablets Main Storage, Download folder. Interestingly, and as you suggest, I've tried to copy/move some Word files and a pdf file from the Downloads folder to the SSD, however I get the same error message.
FYI, I've connected the SSD to my laptop and transferred various file types to the SSD without any issues. Also, no problems copying files from the Tab A8 to my laptop.
Does this mean the Tab and the SSD can't communicate???
Hope you can help.

What filesystem is the SSD formatted in? It's best to use FAT32. If it's formatted with some other filesystem, it might not be completely compatible.
