Galaxy Tab S 8.4 VS Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4

That $25 Google Play credit was a nice added bonus. I used it to finally buy the apps that I had been using for years (free versions).

I have Nova Launcher Prime on my Pro 8.4 and works extremely well. When a root is available for it, I'll root it and gut out Samsung's bloatware. I did that on my GTab 2 7.0 and I was amazed at how snappy it was after doing that.

Mine is rooted with Towelroot and it's not voiding the warranty. [ROOT KERNEL FOR TowelRoot] Tab Pro 8.4, 10.… | Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 | XDA Forums

I bought the tab Pro for 249 from best buy a few days ago. I was originally going to buy a Nexus nine, but I couldn’t justify the iPad-like price. Also, I prefer the 16:9 aspect ratio. I currently have a 7-inch tab 2 and the only time I want a little more screen size is while watching HULU or other online video, and I just didn’t need the extra inch of tablet only to serve as black stripes at the top and bottom of the screen. I then started looking at the galaxy s 8.4 which was sitting right next to a pro 8.4. I played with both of them, and the only difference I can see was that holding them both side by side, the blacks were a little blacker on the tab S and it was a little lighter. Holding them one at a time, the only difference I noticed was that I liked the rubbery backing on the tab pro better. My wife has a iPad mini 2 (retina) and I did notice that it was a little smother, more responsive and faster than my Tab2. In that regard, the Tab pro is as good or better than the Mini.
I think the Tab S was 399 when I was looking. I don’t know what the price difference will be on black Fryday, but I guess the real question is whether the 1GB of ram, blacker blacks on the screen (both screens are really good though) slightly smaller bezels, and 1 oz of weight are enough to justify the difference. For me it was $150 and the answer was no. Ad in the much better feel of the faux leather vs the dimpled hard plastic, and the choice was obvious.

If you're in the US, the Tab S 8.4 is $249 at Staples (via $100 off $349 IN STORE coupon). Even though I already have a Tab Pro, I picked one up yesterday since I had about $120 in Staples rewards that I had nothing better to do with, and walked out the door with a Tab S Bronze (very nice!) for $129. So, no it comes down to $50 difference between the Pro and the S 8.4.

After having used both (Pro and S) for a day, I can't say I like one better than the other. It pretty much comes down to looks. The metallic bronze look of the "S" is very nice. I have a Simple cover on order from Samsung.com using the 50% off coupon that came with registration.

I paid $199 for my Tab Pro a month ago, and now with BF deals that low, I don't think I can sell it for that, so I might gift it. :)

Just show them the online price $349 and they will price match, then apply the $100 coupon. Total is $249 + tax.

My local staples refused to combine both. It was one or the other.

I just purchased the tab pro 8.4 for my mom for Christmas. she has the tab 2 7 currently. I am hoping that this will be a significant upgrade for her but with some familiarity as well. She is not a smart phone user and hasn't used any other tablet.

I've upgraded from the Tab 2 7.0 to the Tab Pro 8.4... it IS a significant upgrade in every way but still familiar.

Glad to hear that, got the wife exact same upgrade for Christmas and I believe she got one for me, Best Buy black Friday price $199

Over 1 year later I still have Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, still use it daily and it is still a beast!! :)

I think even tho the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is over a year old now, I think it is still one of the best and most powerful Android tablets to date. :)
