I have a wifi tab s4 that is stuck on the July 2018 security patch and android 8.1.

I have reset it and tried manually updating it to no avail. It is not in developers mode if that matters. I have access to a w7 pc but I use linux mint daily.

Can someone please give me some help? Thank you.

Was the device purchased in a region that has received any updates? Have you tried using Smart Switch on a computer to check for updates?

I purchased it in the US but it is used so I don't don't know positively where it originated. I haven't heard of smart switch. Do I need a windows pc for that?

Take it to best buy. They will update to the latest firmware.

Samsung hasn't released Pie for the Tab S4 yet, their roadmap shows an April release. Having owned several Samsung tablets and phones, they tend to let their security updates fall months behind, so they are probably waiting for the Pie update to bring that up to date as well.

July 2018 was a long time ago. I have read that the s4 should at least have the dec update.

I may just wait till April...

Thank you all.

Correct, the last WiFi Tab S4 (US) update was in January 2019 with a Dec 2018 Sec Update in tow. Still not Pie, but yeah, rumors seem to point to an April update for that.
The OP's tablet, however, seems to be 'stuck' quite a few updates ago.
