Galaxy Watch 42mm sends text notifications once in a while

My wife and I exchanged Galaxy watches for Christmas, she has a Motorola Moto X4 phone and the wear software downloaded fine, the watch paired, no issues at all with that. The watch connects, I can call from the watch,ect ect. What is very annoying is 99% of the time there is no notification on the watch of a text message which is one of the main reasons my wife wanted the watch, a little vibrate on her wrist and she could check the message. I am really wondering if there is something I am missing here. I have not set mine up yet, I have a note 9. Thanks
