Gallery app?

Is Google photos the only photo gallery on the essential phone? Is there better ones out there? I use OneDrive for my photos. Only need one cloud storage for all of my devices and photos.

You can use any Android app on any Android phone. Which ones connect directly to OneDrive? You'll have to read the descriptions or experiment.

You only need one cloud storage if you use Drive also. Your pictures would be at Google Photos on any device.
