By the way, Google will be breaking the photos app out of Google+ soon.. Maybe within a few weeks. Rumor has it they will show off their new Photos service at Google I/O at the end of May.

Came to view my camera gallery yesterday & it's simply disappeared obviously along with my pictures
Any ideas what might have happened?? Thanks

Tthe final solution:
Go to settings -- general --application manager -- all
then look for gallary and turn it on

This was really helpful. My gallery disappeared after my baby played with phone. Every time she did this I had no way to get it back. Ultimately I had to factory reset my phone, missing all my installed apps and photos and videos. Today she did it again. So I searched online and came over this post. So, what I found was that even my Camera app was missing. So, I opened the 'hide app section and disselected the camera app. Both the camera and gallery was restored.

Also, is standard camera app still there? If yes, open the camera app and swipe left - does the gallery open?

Yes , on swiping left, gallery is opening, but only the problem is icon is missing.

Please help me out in this.

Punkinn was referring to the stock Gallery app (the one based on the original AOSP app). Pixel phones don't have that Gallery app -- Nexus and Pixel phones have only come with Google Photos for some time now.

ME TOO !! I am desperate to get the gallery app back. Verizon told me it isn't possible. But I know it is still somewhere in my phone (Android 7.1.1) because when I am using Messenger+ for texting and I click to add a photo, it goes to the gallery app. HELP HELP !
