My gallery was working fine until today but now every time I try to open a photo from my sd card the gallery freezes then eventually comes up with a "not responding" message. This morning my gallery was frozen so I tried restarting the phone but it carried on doing it so I went into app manager and force quit the app, cleared the cache and cleared the data. This un froze my gallery, but now every time I go to open a picture on my sd card the photos are really pixellated and low res. I can't share or upload them because I get a file not found message. Sometimes I open the image and the high res version is there but then the gallery freezes and crashes again... also, every time I take a photo and try to save it to my sd card it says that the file could not be written... does this mean my sd is corrupt? as far as I know I'm able to open all other images saved on my phone but most of my pictures (about 1000 of them) are on my sd card and I dont want to lose them. Is there any way to salvage the files? Because sometimes when I open them the high res version is there but the gallery crashes :(

I don't have one of those adapter cards, will plugging it in via usb work? I can't right now because I'm at work but I'll try it tonight!

Charmaine,
Are all of your pictures stored on an SD card? If so, you could try shutting down the phone, removing the SD card and inserting it in your PC directly (assuming that your PC has a micro-SD adapter or an SD adapter).

If you can't put it in your PC then you can put it back in the phone and boot the phone to see if the contents are recognized. If they are, you should immediately use something like Cloud Drive: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.amazon.clouddrive.photos to backup your pictures to the cloud (5GB free).

Sometimes, after syncing items to your Android phone's storage card, the stock gallery application will start acting like it's force-closing immediately it's opened.

Here is how to fix it without having to back-up your SD card and format it, then restore.

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
click "All" applications tab
Click gallery
Click the clear data button.

Now everything should be fine.

Tried clearing the data from applications, but still does the same thing. The photos are accessible when connected via PC.:(

Did you also Clear cache for the Gallery app?
It's possible that there's a corrupted file causing this problem. If you have an SD card installed, remove it (or unmount it) and see if the problem goes away.
