Is it just my phone or is there a very noticeable lag when using the gallery. If I recall correctly I experienced the same issue in my Note 7.

I don't have any lag in the gallery, so far. My pictures, about 4 GB, are on the SD Card, also. I started with a fresh SD Card and formatted it with my desktop computer and then coppied my pictures onto it. So far, the gallery on this phone is much faster than my previous one.

You could copy them to a folder on your desktop computer or laptop and do a virus scan. Because if the virus scanner gets stuck, then you might have some bad pictures which has happened to me a few times before. Also, if while you're copying them it gets stuck, then you might have some bad pictures. You could also scan the SD Card directly from your desktop or laptop.

I would make sure you have a clean copy of your pictures backed up to a flash drive... or two. On my previous phone, I had my whole gallery wiped out while my phone was charging. But I had accidentially left my wi-fi on and my gallery was on my SD Card then, also. I don't know what happened.

I read a thread here on AC, where someone said something about Google Photos in the Gallery.
Do you perhaps have it showing in Gallery?

I have all 12gb of pics on my 256gb SanDisk. I don't have Google photos in the gallery. Most of the images are years old and mainly for work I guess I'm hording. I will move a majority of them to another storage device and see if that helps. Thanks for the replies.

I also read on here that one of the apps that remaps bixby is causing Gallery lag... I haven't tested it myself. But could that be it?

Is your photos cloud stored rather than local storage so when you use gallery it has to retrieve from cloud

A corrupt photo can cause the Gallery to slow down. By corrupt I mean a damaged file, not something NSFW. :D
