This is going to be a bit long. I apologize for that, but I'm trying to be thorough.
Here's the setup. I have an unrooted Galaxy Tab A running 6.0.1. I have a 128GB SD card that is encrypted in the tablet. My file manager of choice is ES File Explorer Pro.
What I'm trying to do is copy images from my home server to the SD card on the tablet. The problem is that, ANY picture I put on the SD card shows up in the gallery as 0 bytes until I reboot the tablet. (Clearing the Gallery cache/data does not resolve the problem. I've also deleted the com.sec.android.gallery3d folders in both internal and external storage with no effect.) Even dismounting and remounting the SD card does not work. Rebooting is the ONLY way I can get images on the SD card to show when I copy them directly to the SD card.
The process that fails:
Using ES, I connect to my server (SFTP), copy an image, then paste it in /storage/1234-abcd/Pictures. While in ES, if I try to open the image with Gallery, it gives me the error image. If I use ES's internal image viewer, it displays just fine. This same process fails when I try to copy/move an image from the /sdcard/Download (that's the internal storage location) folder to the SD card using ES.
Something to note about this process. When I put the files on the SD card, the My Files app says they are 0 bytes, despite ES showing the correct size.
The process that actually works:
Using ES, I copy the file from my server to the internal storage Pictures folder. Gallery is able to see the picture immediately 100% of my attempts. I then switch to the "My Files" app and move the images to the SD card Pictures folder and Gallery sees them in the new location with no issues.
One last thing to mention. This is only happening while the SD card is encrypted. If I decrypt the card, then there is no problem using ES to copy images anywhere on the card.
