Games built for android drain more battery then Emulators?

I was wondering if someone can explain this to me?

my phone is one of the "not so good battery" variety, so it needs to be charged mid day every day.

today I couldn't go to work due to hurricane and thunderstorms near me. so I sat back and played some N64 Zelda for 2 hours and what do you know, I'm at 60% with 2 hours of SoT... probably the best SoT I've ever gotten (I'm guessing I'm gonna have 5 hours SoT today? estimate?) but when playing something like dead trigger with the same exact Bluetooth controller the battery drains much faster. (I would say the same battery wasted in half the time)

So my question is... why? does instagram/other android apps really waste more battery then emulating an N64? HOW is that possible?

It's really up to the developer for the majority of battery drain, some developers are very good at limiting resource utilization and thus your battery lats longer.

Take Electronic Arts for example, Fifa 2015 is extremely well optimized and I can play for upwards of 2 hours and only drain 30-40% battery while the phone doesn't even heat up that much. Other games with less intensive graphics cause my S6 to plummet in battery while playing and bring my S6 to excessively high temperatures.

In your case, Nintendo 64 games aren't the most graphically intense games around, the less moving items on screen and the lower the detail, the less resources utilized and thus longer battery life.

It all really comes down to the developer or the games content, a good developer is capable of optimizing their game to work as efficiently as possible while maintaining high frame rates and reducing battery drain.

it's amazing that Instagram wastes more battery then playing a game.

Maybe the apps are just not optimized for the exynos chip yet

Instagram is owned by Facebook and thus follows no bounds or limits regarding battery consumption. I find Instagram is always listed under my battery stats no matter what, it's really annoying that they don't seem to care about fixing it. It can't be a light drainer given it has to transfer large amounts of data buy it could do a lot better than it does now.

i guess alot of apps not caring about battery drain + a QHD screen with only 2550mAh battery will do that
