Garage Opener using IR blaster?

Has anyone found a way to use the IR blaster as a garage openner? Any apps?

Uhmmm. Garage door openers don't use IR. They use a radio signal.

Yup. Unless you install some kind of IR sensor outside. But then security might be an issue.

Yeah, you might want to place a receiver in a covert location then use a coded IR signal. Assuming you have to point straight at the receiver, strangers would have a hard time locating the receiving point; say, pointing straight up the garage porch when obviousness is to point straight ahead would disable casual triggerings, or having to point at security cameras to force clear pictures. And the coded signal can convey any number of meanings plus the code security. I can think of personal codes for different smartphones, time schedules, one time permission codes, open-and-close vs keep-open codes, sequential access (cannot go in or out unless another code was triggered before), downloadable on-the-fly codes... Radio control can be operated from afar (maliciously let the dog out because codes were compromised), but IR forces a closer relation to the receiver.
