Gear Fit 2 Shortcomings

Almost 24 hours and a 1 hour workout, battery is at 58% most likely will need to charge it when I wake up since I have a long day ahead. You are right about using the Running for the threadmill and it gave similar caloric readings as my Fitbit Charge HR, however it thinks i'm running way faster than I actually am and the distance of course is way off.

I'm also trying to figure out how to disable the pedometer on my phone. I hate how Shealth adds the phone and the Fit2s and inflates the step count.

I noticed the distance estimate is way off but at least calories are better.

In S Health on the step count screen, you can pick which source you want to see whether it's the phone, gear or both

yes i know, but i don't want the phone to be counting steps too.

Interestingly enough - my biggest complaint - the altimeter seems to be working itself out. Initially when I received my Fit 2 it was counting the steps in my home toward my floor count. Then all of a sudden it completely stopped. The past two days I'm getting my floor counts again. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate, it may have missed one floor count yesterday but it's a heck-a-lot better than not getting *any* count at all. No idea how it fixed itself, but I'll take it.

I'm having to charge this every other day or so, but last night I turned the wifi off. Anyone know what the wifi is for? From what I understand, bluetooth is all I need enabled to have it syncing and communicating with my phone right? Is there some reason I would want the wifi turned on in my Fit 2?

Re: Stairs, I find this to be true also, but Fitbit would miss Flights too.

The Wifi it seems like is for notifications. Can't seem to do anything else with BT disconnected and Wifi only like syncing to S Health.

Not too much information out on the web yet, but there are a few short comings that I see coming from a Fitbit.

Auto Heart Rate monitoring is not constant, it will do it only at intervals when you are not moving. Also will only be on constant when exercising.

Step counts. Will not count steps if arm is not moving like carrying or pushing something. The good part is that the Large is big enough to go around my ankle.

Stairs. Not accurate at all.

Gear Manager / S Health. Clunky. Cannot disable S Health Phone monitoring. Phone has to be on too and will then estimate step calculations between both devices. Would be nice if they would sync backwards from phone to gear fit 2 with the steps and everything else. Wish you can do more settings on the app. Also a windows based or web based S Health would be nice instead of using just the phone.

Will give this a shot for a few days, or else it will go back to Best Buy. Was looking for a more comfortable solution vs. the Fitbit HR. Has anyone found any solutions to these?

The pedometer in the Fit2 is absolute garbage if it doesn't count steps when you're pushing or holding something. I was wondering why it wasn't recording my steps when I was push mowing the lawn the other day. This accounts for almost 7,000 steps every week for me! It also didn't record steps when I was pushing a cart in the grocery store the other day for apparently the same reason. And if this isn't bad enough, it doesn't record steps unless you take at least 15 consecutive steps. So I'm losing close to 10,000 steps per week. Not cool.

I believe this is correct. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to put music onto my Note 5. SideSync is terrible for transferring. Once I was able to keep SideSync from hijacking my connection when I plugged in my phone (by uninstalling it) I could use standard file transfer. Samsung has basically screwed you with any searches because they named their app music so searches find everything BUT Samsung music.

So uninstall SideSync, connect your phone, then manually transfer any files you want to media/audio.

Welcome to 1995.

well i bought the large, and my ankles are small enough for it to go around if im gonna be mowing etc.

Interesting...

I've turned off the wifi setting on my Fit and I haven't noticed any changes in notifications, so I guess they are being pushed fine through my bluetooth connection. Hoping turning it off helps save some battery life on this thing.

Well I found another interesting tidbit about SHealth regarding sleep. It kept marking my sleep as poor even if i slept for more than 6 hours or even 10 hours. If you don't sleep on time (whatever you set the app to), it will never mark your sleep as Good even if you get a full night's sleep. A few minutes later than your scheduled sleep time is an automatic Fair. I would assume the same if you wake up earlier than your wake up time.

Hello,

I'm new here. I received my gear fit 2 on monday and have to say that i love the features that it is offering. BUT one big but, it seems impossible to put music on the gearfit because i have no music in "samsung music" on my samsung galaxy s7 edge. I have google music, apple music and spotify and all of those services work fine on my galaxy but they don't store any music in samsung music. I tried everything but it seems impossble to put music in samsung music.

Does anyone know the solution for this issue?

many thanks in advance

Download Music Mate from the Play Store, then download the music want locally to your phone through Play Music. The app is free for the first 50 uploads, $4 gives you the unlock key for unlimited. Next, open the Gear app on your phone and send music to Gear. The app will then recognize the music stored on your phone. It's painfully slow to transfer but the only workaround for Play Music I found that works.

The Wi-Fi is only needed if your watch is out of Bluetooth range where notifications would push from the phone to it over Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth.

Big problem.. can't view hr during "other workout" for example weight routine.

And no map view to show you where you are while bikinh.

My 5 year old Motorola Motoactv does this..and so much more!! Wtf

Not being able to see HR during other workout is my biggest annoyance with this device

I want to like this device and keep it and sell my MS band 2..mainly because I like the internal music storage, more colorful display and Shealth intergration. But not seeing heart rate when it matters most, no ability to view hrate after to see min/max during workout is a MAJOR problem.

Also the floors climbed does NOT work. Ran up 2 flights of stairs ten times and NONE recorded. I am not the only one with this problem..

If this isn't fixed soon..I have 14 days to return and will use the ms band 2 for now until these stupid trackers take a note from the freaking 5 year old Motoactv and get it right!

Got mine for father's day and today is first day of use.
So far stairs have been perfect (8 flights up at work, 2x 4 flights). Notifications have been fine from Googlechat, phone calls etc.
I just turned off wifi and have gps off.

It is pretty comfortable so far.

Is there anyway to edit the step goal count? I know on my wife's fitbit alta I can change it from the base 10,000 steps to something else. This seems to come with a default of 6000, and I would like to change it.

One issue I read online was that if it got wet, it would cause issue's with the stair counts, despite the waterproof rating.

I'm not a huge work out person, so mostly have it for counting steps/encouraging me to walk more and basic notifications. For what it is, I like it so far. (That and I think full blown smart watches still need a few years to really mature)

The biggest shortcoming I see so far is the inability to transfer music and audio books directly from my phone to my Gear Fit 2. Through various forums I figured out that if I download Music Mate I can download songs from my Google Play account and then they show up on my Gear Fit 2, but not otherwise. Has anyone figured out how to get audio books from Audible.com onto their Gear Fit 2 from their phone? If I can figure that out I will be thrilled.

The stairs work for me at work but not at home. I think you have to go up a flight of stairs that's bigger than your normal house stairs.

I'd be interested to see if you keep it or go back to the band 2. I thought about the band before getting the Fit 2. My biggest annoyance is that the auto-tracking seems to skip your first 10 minutes. I went biking on Saturday and did two sessions. Google Fit recorded an hour and 20 minutes while S Health only listed an hour. Each session was 10 minutes shorter than Google Fit. That's happened both times I went biking.

Another annoyance is that I simply can't get the band off. I've read the instructions on Samsungs site and I can't get it off even when applying plenty of force. I feel like if I put more on it then I'll break it. I don't want another S Pen debacle.

Finally, are there second party chargers? The always on watch face seems to eat battery fast enough that a full day isn't happening.

You can change the step goal on the watch itself under that tab, scroll to the bottom.
