Gear Fit 2 Shortcomings

I too returned my Fit2 and opted for the Garmin Vivioactive HR model, it arrived yesterday and I am happy so far, a slight confession, my partner has been wearing one for around a week so I've seen it working before purchasing.

Went for a run last night and took my phone with me, using runkeeper to compare accuracy and it was 0.01 of a mile off in a 6.21m (10km) run. Haven't used it for any other activities yet but the app seems intuative and detailed and the fact I can just opt for a cardio workout and it track my metrics is a big win.

The two things that bother me slightly are it's not the pretiest watch and there is no onboard storage for music, that is a real pain but but it seems you can't buy the perfect all rounder just yet.

I would say there is a chance the Samsung could be corrected via software updates, the things wrong seem more software related than hardware but I personally am not patient enough to wait whilst wearing a watch that frustrates with its innacuracy. Looks nice, gives a generic indicator of your acticity levels but as a fitness watch its a "no" from me I'm afraid

I agree that it's not the prettiest but given how good how good it is I'm getting over the looks. I think this is the device I've been looking for. I hope it works out for you!

Luis is your Vivosmart counting way too many calories? Right now I'm at 4000 calories burned.... I haven't even done my walk/run today, however i was fairly active mowing the lawn, cleaning the garage, flat sanding a rear bumper, wash/wax two cars. But no way I burned 4000 calories.

Was that your active calories alone or a combination of both active and resting? I did notice a high count the first couple of days but after a couple outdoor walks/runs it calibrated and the calories are better. I was pretty active on both days but still felt it was kind of high. However, today it felt right

it ended up finishing at 5000 calories. i had to to reset the unit. turn off sync with myfitness pal and changed the HR zones. the garmin forums said that there was an issue with MFP and garmin ends up double counting calories somehow, also i believe that since i'm still fairly unhealthy, my heart rate jumps over 100 quickly even if i just get up and walk. the unit thinks im already doing an activity. so i changed the hr zone using the second setting with my resting heart rate. so much better now, no false activity flags. today i'm at 2320 calories. much more realistic than 5000 calories.

Greetings. Just adding my voice here, happy user of the Gear Fit 2 until I noticed the calorie count. Or that the training methods did not activate themselves. Or that they make no sense whatsoever because you are unable to add actual weight (not to mention it's very inaccurate with the heartrate).

So I'm returning my piece today. However, after having checked quite a few alternatives, there is no golden goose out there. Each of them has a pro and con (or a couple for that matter). So it really depends what you're looking for. If you want a pulse meter, get a chest belt in addition (UA offers that for a steep price, but at least that's as close as you can get at this moment).

Thanks for the info. I ended modifying mine too to see the effect it has on me. I'm a big guy trying to get healthy so calories are extremely important

Then i'm sure your heart rate is similar to mine. any little movement and your beyond 100+. A few months ago, I would be standing only doing nothing and my Heart rate is a good 100. Now it actually falls down below that.

So, I'm really looking forward to buying this thing. Is it worth it because I've been waiting months to buy it. I'm sure that Samsung is going to update it at some point. Someone help me out.

From someone who owned it, I wouldn't recommend it until Samsung releases the update(s) this device needs to qualify for a fitness tracker.

I don't think its quite there. Close, but not quite. Auto detection needs to improve (or allow the user to enable/disable), as does the hr sensor with some activities. Will they update it? Probably depends on the reception they get with it. I'd expect to see some improvement through firmware. If they think the market is there, they'll probably bring out another generation, but its too soon to tell. It is a pretty little thang, though!

I agree with the above. I thought it would have been pretty decent out of the box, but it only had one update while I owned it. I haven't found a clear user forum for it anywhere on the web which kinda sucks. There is no great resource for the watch. If you look at Fitbit or Garmin, they have their own forums and you can see the MANY updates they have done to their products. That is worth something in itself. Their updates may not be completely perfect, but at least you can see they are updating and trying to fix this stuff.

I'm returning mine. Battery life should be better. It should track HR for ANY workout rather than just cardio workouts. Finally, S Health doesn't share date with enough other apps. Lifesum is no substitute for MyFitnessPal.

Hi recently got the Gear Fit 2 a couple days ago. Been having an issue hopefully someone can help with. When I go out of range with my Gear Fit 2 and the Bluetooth disconnects from my Galaxy S7 it does not automatically reconnect when I'm back in range. I have to go to the Gear app and manually reconnect it to my phone. Any one have this issue? Didn't have this issue with my Garmin, when paired with my S7. It would automatically reconnect to my phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the same problem with my nexus 6p. I try to manually connect and it may work. but only stays connected for a few minutes.
I tried to install a new watchface that i purchased and it won't stay connected long enough. I may have to return it if it won't stay connected.

Argh!! I thought it was only you and I that had the issue of our Fit2 only recording steps after we walked 10 steps or more! I chatted with Samsung online about it, I asked three people who wrote great reviews about it on Amazon and I even asked questions on the product there as well (no responses from Amazon at all yet) plus I tried to ask the Samsung employee at Best Buy plus I even tried to walk with their demo unit tethered to their demo stand but no one could tell me if I have a defective until or not!! So today I finally went to Best Buy and bought another one and found out it has the same issue so perhaps it's normal to not record steps until so many steps were taken?? I have a small office at work but I move around a lot but if I stop and move or even shuffle around the office rooms it won't record any of those steps! This bugs me to no end! So although everything else seems to work, and I do love the display and all but I'll be returning both of my units tomorrow.

Recently purchased a samsung gear fit 2, and so far I have loved it. However, a couple days ago I ran it under the sink and dried it off after a run, and shortly afterwards, the floor/stair estimator was completely off. It said I had climbed a ridiculous 104 floors in under three hours. I contacted samsung and a factory reset did not fix it. Does anyone have the same issue or solutions? Currently mine is in rice just in case there is moisture that affected it (even though it should be water resistant)
Thanks for any info

It's a known issue, and not totally uncommon with barometric altimeters. Does not really affect the water resistance of the device otherwise, and the wild inaccuracy should be temporary (although stair counters are notoriously unreliable anyway).

Ive seen an article where the gear fit 2 will be having a update in the coming weeks. Im still on the fence between this or thr blaze. Hopefully this update fixes fit 2 issues ive read about

yes my fitbit was wildly inaccurate with stairs. once there was a thunderstorm outside while i was on the threadmill and it kept counting stairs like no tomorrow. my garmin is also buggy as hell with the stairs so its just a common problem for all of them.

too little too late. loved the display. samsung still has a long way to go with fitness apps and watches.
