So, I just updated my phone to the new Marshmallow OS, and my Gear S is not connecting to my phone.

Do I have to factory reset my Gear S so that it will connect or is there something else I can do?

The last firmware update to the S (April or later, depending on your carrier) was supposed to fix that.
I would try reboot the watch first, unpair/repair the watch if the reboot doesn't work , clear data in the Gear Manager next if need be, uninstall/install GM if it still isn't working and factory reset only as a last resort. M has been reported as having Bluetooth issues with more than just smartwatches.

I had the same problem with mine. The watch would not re-connect automatically. I would have to use the Gear S app on the phone and force it to re-connect. I did a factory reset on the watch on the week-end and it has sorted itself completely now. It behaves as it did before the update to marshmelllow
