I have been using the Gear S for about 5 months and I have not seen any firmware or software updates for this device. I bought mine at BB but did not activate it on AT&T. Before thinking about getting the S2, I would at least like to know whether Samsung is continually supporting their devices.

I think I've had one update from Verizon but there were no major additions or changes

I've had mine since last November. I think I've gotten two updates, but neither were Earth-shattering.

II had one or two on T-mo, one of which broke functionality big time and prevented me from connecting it to my phone. (Gear S started overheating and rapidly draining battery, at the rate of 10% /5min.)
It was either that or a Gear Manager update - regardless: the watch worked flawlessly until some update ruined everything. :(

I've had my Gear S since November.

I have not come across any "bugs" or system errors. Everything seems to work as intended, For Me.
After reading how an update "broke" a device, I say, Leave well enough alone!
Just need to get 3rd parties, or Samsung to create more functionality through apps.

What we really need is an update to S Voice to make it at least close to Google Voice in speed and functionality. I have had a Wear watch, and I miss having Google voice at hand so to speak. S Voice on Gear S does not support a basic like task creation. It sucks.

A software update for the Samsung Gear S (SM-R750A) was made available to customers on March 3, 2015. Upon powering up/activating the Gear S and/or connecting via Bluetooth, Gear Manager will indicate that an update to the Gear S is available. The update can be downloaded over the Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Wi-Fi is set as the default.

It was about as direct an answer to the op as possible. Last firmware update was between March and April, depending on your carrier, and if the op has one awaiting how they'll know it's there.
Samsung has a reputation for abandoning their devices shortly after the next version comes out, or in the case of the Gear Fit while still on store shelves.
Will Samsung do things differently with the S2? Are there any more firmware updates to the S1 since many will not be jumping ship to the 2?
While Android Wear continually updates their app and firmware Samsung has so far done business as usual.

I have owned many Samsung devices for over 15 years. Samsung's business model has always been coming up new models as fast as they can instead of fix issues or greatly improve on existing models. New models will be slightly better and has new issues until next model comes out. I'm expecting at most one more update for original Gear S.
