Hey all. Quick question for you. I really want to pick up the Gear S but I have not found any info on whether or not the Gear S works with Google Play Music. I pay for Play Music, so that compatibility is important for me. Will it work or no? Thank you all for your help in advance.

I pay for the service and was concerned as well. You can download songs from Google Play Music and put them on your watch. I downloaded my "gym music" to my Gear S and it works smoothly.

You want to control your streaming Play Music? "Gear S Notification Extender" is what you need. You have to start the app and music on the phone, but once you do and run the app in the background, Music puts a notification in your status bar. Extender reads that notification, complete with all music controls and album art. It's awesome!

This is what you get. If you hit the bottom right menu button, you get the rest of the music controls.

Hey that works for me haha. I was just worried I wouldn't have it at all. Would have liked to have been able to stream it without my phone for when I'm working. Something is better than nothing I suppose. Really surprised the watch can't stream it though.

An app called beatObox also provides Play Music controls, but it's more of a watch face type app.

How did you put it on your Gear S?

Yes that's what I want to know, how do you transfer it?

Galaxy Note 4
Galaxy Tab S 8.4
Galaxy Gear S & Gear 1 (tizen)
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
Galaxy Gear Circle & Level speaker box

To the best of my knowledge, you would download them to your desktop and transfer to the S, but I've never bothered.

Yea that sounds like too much work, lol, I have my circle and phone to listen to my music through...

work:G.S.6 edge play: G.S. Note 4

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

I know you can just transfer it from your computer or Samsung phone, but I'm wondering how CLC81 downloaded music from Play Music to the Gear S, like how you can with Android Wear smartwatches

I can verify Music Mate works with Play Music All Access. Just make sure you have added the music to "my library," then Music Mate is able to grab it and then you transfer it via the Gear app. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to bring the playlist over from All Access to the Gear.

Dear beatObox user,

A modified version of music controller app beatObox for your Gear watch is now available.

What's New:
- Added support for Lollipop (Android OS 5.0+)
- Minor bug fixes, UI improvements
- Enhanced connectivity between watch and phone

Please note that beatObox is now a paid app to keep continuing the support. Hope that's OK. :-)

Cheers.
Team beatObox

I was going to try it out cause I assumed you bumped it up to $1, but $3 is a little much compared to the free competition

After downloading several apps to try and do this I found out how. Believe it or not just open the Google play app on your phone and play a song. Then on the Gear S go to the standard music player (blue circle/music note.) Then press the three dots in the upper right and select "Mobile Device." Bam, done :)

Well, that was simple. Thank you for the post. Now I can control Google Play.

Ok, it is not bad. But i was hoping to be able to transfer some google music songs to the watch so i can take it for a run without having to also bring along the phone.
