So, I got myself the S2 yesterday after I got my Galaxy S7 phone. Definitely digging it. I do have one question...

Is the watch supposed to turn back on/wake up when you touch the screen? Or is the only way to wake it by raising the watch to look at it or using the bezel or buttons?

Thanks in advance!

Mine functions the same way. I have to raise my wrist, twist the bezel or push a button. Tapping the screen doesn't turn it on. I haven't had it long enough to see if there is a settings change but I kind of like it not turning on by touch.

You're welcome. No, the touchscreen will not wake up the watch.

in addition to PPimfln answer there is another possibility:
turn on "watchface always on" function (this will decrease battery life), then you can touch the screen to open the active watchface.
this scenario might satisfy your needs

I find the wrist gesture to be surpirsingly accurate. However I also changed the "Screen Timeout" to 30 seconds, and I find that is a good combo

I did my S2 Sport the same way...battery stayed good. With the 3G the battery sucks if I do the wrist movement and Verizon hasn't seen fit to update the 3G so I use the "push button" and only have the original screen time-out. C'mon Verizon!

I now have the Huawei and gear s2. The gear has much better & faster wrist movement detection, but no always-sensitive screen. AW allows a touch to turn the screen on, but honestly compared to the s2 it's maddening raising the watch and hoping/waiting for the display to turn on.

i had the LG G Watch and the Moto 360, and I agree, neither had the wrist gesture down like Samsung. Even the old Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo had pretty stellar wrist gesture response times

My Gear wakes the screen on touch. Software version in attachment
