On T-Mobile not Verizon, but I just upgraded from the S2 Classic to the S3 Frontier with LTE.
At that point they had not announced the S3 Classic with LTE, or I might have waited.
However to your question, the S3 is by Far the best watch out right now.
I have had the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, LG G Watch, Moto 360, Pebble, and Pebble Time.
S2 crushed all of them, and the S3 is definitely better than the S2.
You could just do the non-LTE one. I thought about it. And so far I have only legitimately used the phone number on the watch one time. I tested it to make sure it worked of course.
The legit use was when my phone (LG V20) locked up due to a bad theme. I was able to use my watch to text my wife.
I would have survived without that of course.
I figured even if I never used it, i am still glad I do have the option. What if I drop my phone and it breaks, or I accidentally lock myself out of the house without my phone.
I pretty much always have the watch on, so I can use it if needed
