Gear S3 Notification dismissal

[Android Central Question]

Sometimes I'm notified of an event by my Gear S3 by a red area which I can dismiss by sliding it to the right (I apologise for not knowing the correct name of this).
The red area also has an arrow, starting at 9 O'clock (how will the younger generation describe this when they can read only digital clocks?) and going around the edge of the dial in a clockwise direction.
What is the purpose/meaning of this arrow? I find that swiping it to the right horizontally to be equally effective, and much easier.

It just means you can rotate the bezel to dismiss the notification. Good for the cooler months if you are wearing gloves
