Gear SEE and Textra (or other messaging apps)

Can you use other text messaging apps with the S3? I'm not fond of the stock app and want to know if the others work just the same before I purchase an S3.

I'm using Textra and it works just fine with the S3.

mine was working just fine with textra, now today it keeps telling me to set messages as default app. I'm trying to figure out why it's not working.

Mine has been working fine with Textra since I purchased it Thursday.

Textra all the way, every individual contact that set with a color or picture displays on my watch and able to read full messages
