Gear So why?

In what situations would one need a stand alone smartwatch? Just trying to figure out if I'd need this watch instead of my gear 2.

If you go for a run or bike ride and want your workout tracked via GPS but don't want to take your gianormous Note 4 with you, this watch can do it.

If you want to take a phone call from your wrist, this guy can do that.

If you want to use connected apps, like messaging ones, from your watch but don't have your phone or it's out of juice, this watch will still let you do it.

So basically if you need to have your phone but don't want or can't the real thing with you, this is actually a phone on your wrist.

So if I need a second smaller phone this is the one I'd need?

Right or say if you go somewhere and forget your phone, or don't take it and end up staying longer than you planned. I will try it and see how it is I hated the 360.

^ Just curious.... did you dislike the 360 watch or the Android Wear aspect of it? I am deciding between Tizen and Android Wear since the Gear S and the Sony SW3 are ones I am interested in.

Honestly I think it's the Android wear aspect. I hate feeling invaded by Google. Also it seemed very limited and it was a little bit of a complicated set up. It's sitting on my dresser waiting to be returned. I guess I'm just a sucker for Samsung.

The Gear S to me will/is the best smart watch so far. Just to echo on what Reesh11 said, the convenience is its best selling point, however it is not meant to replace your smartphone, at least not yet. Going out for a run, clubbing, dining out, meetings, or most social gatherings can be way convenient. You can leave your phone behind in your car, locker, office, etc for those moments.

I have the Gear 2 now, the Gear S can do more.

Exactly. I was just thinking when I used to go clubbing in St Louis how I hated bringing my phone with me. Especially since I didn't bring my purse. This would be a good remedy in a situation like that.

My phone is my camera. I use it for quick simple shots. If I leave my phone at home, can I snap pictures with this machine?

Unfortunately, the camera is removed from the Gear S, so we can't take pic or video. As for taking pics, the Gear 2 is handy for quick low quality shots, but if we want much better quality, we rather use our phone.

Thanks for the reply. Wish the camera was included. I find it very useful for quick shots on my gear 2. Not a deal breaker though.
