Gear VR set-up wizard launches instead of charging.

Hi, so today i was charging my S6 edge, which I have had since last September, and all of a sudden, the screen went black with a little 'x' in the bottom corner with an automated TTS voice saying "Welcome to your gear VR please remove device and install necessary programs to begin". So after managing to get rid of the black screen, I went to check the charging status on the home screen drop down bar and it was no longer fast charging, rather cable charging which in my case was taking roughly double thr estimated time to 100%. Whenever I remove the cable and put it back in, my phone screen flashes black for a second or two and vibrates on and off charge as if it's making its mind up which it wants to do. It invariably launches the gear VR wizard and then charges when i fiddle with the cable. Why won't it fast charge please? And also, is this a hardware issue like my cable port is broken or more likely to be a software issue that will get sorted soon please? Any help or any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to Geneva this weekend and would kind of like to get it sorted before I go if possible. Thank you.
