Gear watch won't charge or turn on!

how do i know if my watches are charging or not? they are plugged into my laptop and the screens are shut off but the watches are on. i am lost

Double tap any screen with two fingers. It will show Bluetooth connection, battery level, and gives you the option to control the brightness of the screen

Bought gear 7/2014 and it stopped working / charging 12/2015 I called samsung and they wanted a minimum of $71 to look at it. I just wanted to know if I could replace the battery locally. They said they would not put the $71 on my account till the repairman called me. They lied they did it immediately. I sent the watch and it came back in great shape looked like new, BUT now it reboots at random and when I look at it about 1/4 of the time it is off and has to boot. Otherwise it functions but not as a watch more like a brick. I am very very unhappy with this product. I have many mid-range watches in a drawer that work or just needs a battery. I have a Samsung phone but wonder what their policy is with that product. About $900 invested in Samsung and nervous. So far Note 3 works okay but has issues in design.

Thanks #gazzaabc, it worked for me. I've had the watch for about a year and I've been putting it on charge each evening before I went to sleep. This time I didn't wear it very long and it still had about a 91% charge, but I put it on charge prior to bed time. I saw the charging symbol briefly and figured all was normal. The next morning I tried to turn the watch on and nothing happened, just a black screen. I tried a different charging cradle, cable, cleaning the contacts but still nothing. I then took it apart and removed the battery, thinking that somehow it went bad but when I measure the voltage, I got about 3.8 volts which is about normal. I then figured that the watch just died, but I made another Google search and found your finding. I figured that I didn't have anything to lose so I tried it and it worked! It's weird since the watch was at 91% charge. Once I got it to work, after just a few minutes of being connect to the laptop, I disconnected the charging cradle and the watch continued to work. I even tried to turn it off and on and everything is still working. I guess it's just one of those things. So thanks. It saved me from purchasing another smart watch.

I've just purchased the Samsung Gear s2 classic, have had it for less than a week, and it's not charging. I've tried everything listed here but still wont charge. It shows a overheating symbol (temperature gauge in a triangle) and I haven't had it anywhere hot, i just left it to charge for a few hours and when i came back to it the battery had drained to Zero.

What do I do?

Yep, another satisfied customer. The USB trick worked. Battery is at 1% now and it's charging. Will transfer back to wall charger when at 20%. Thank you!

You guys are awesome!! I carefully open the lid as shown on IFIXIT website and as some of you recommended. I removed the battery connection from the circuit board put it back then charged it to the PC and it worked!!:)

Mine was working fine, with a full charge. When I woke up this morning it was off and will not come back on. Tried hooking it up to my computer, holding the power button and I get nothing?

Hi guys I*got my gear out the cupboard the other day and it wouldnt charge or turn on when attempted to charge at a socket?? This is a few weeks old. Take the usb off your 3pin plug charger if u have 1 (samsung s4 charger) and plug the gear into a laptop or a desktop and it will start charging slowly. No idea why this works but it does. I think once it goes completely flat it wont charge at a socket outlet. You will all notice that phones and devices take alot longer to charge on laptops and desktops. I think this may have something to do with it. Charge it to 5% on your laptop or desktop and disconnect it and it will start working in your house sockets (charge alot faster). Happy days

Amazing. Totally worked. Thanks!

I had the same issue except with a 2nd problem. Yes. to charge the watch I had to use the USB port on the computer, but if it charged beyond 74%, the display will not come on. I have to wait until after I disconnect it to see the display after it discharges for a while. The watch is on, I can hear messages and phone rings, but the display is dead. It comes back on when I only see the percentage at under 74%. If I plug in to the USB port for just a short time and it goes above that, the display goes dead again. Unfortunately, Samsung wants a min of $70 and no guarantee if it costs more. I like the watch, but this is a bit flakey.

I had similar problems with a cheap rip-off version and found help on YouTube

I opened up the back casing and found that the battery wasn't fully connected. All I had to do was push the battery back and that seemed to sort it out. To keep it in place I put a small bit of folded tissue under the casing to push the battery in place permanently. It did the job and my watch works fine.

Good luck to anyone with this problem, and I hope this helped some people

It did work, I plug my gear to a computer and waited and it is now charging, thank you for the advise, appreciate it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Worked a treat! One thing i had to do in addition was to press and hold the power button of the watch for 10 seconds whilst pressing it down into the charging cradle (using a sim tray pin)
It reset the settings and started charging immediately! GOD BLESS FORUMS! 👐👏👊

Absolutely amazing... I came out of hospital last year after being in for two months and my gear was so dead...nothing I did worked, it had the same problems exactly..... resided myself to the fact that that was it...no more gear.... after reading your advice this morning I've put the USB into the mac and low and behold I've gone to check on it after half an hour and it's charging...I'm so happy. Many thanks. 😊

I had the same problem but I fixed it by holding the apps/home/power/reset button (bottom button) for 10 seconds which restarted it and brought it back to life. Not exactly sure if you need this but I also just cleaned the docking hold and the bottom of the watch (The part that touches your hand),I did this because dirt, sweat, grime, etc. can get in the way of charging.👌👍👏🙆⌚🕦📳

You are the man(person)! I don't know how you figured it out but I was open to try anything. This actually worked. I learned many times over not to let the watch go completely dead, because it would never turn back on afterwards. This time around I was no where near the port so it died. This is probably the 5th one due to having a warranty they would just swap it out.... I just didn't feel like doing so again and this blog post helped a million... thanks!!!

I bought the watch right when it came out. It has given me 0 issues. About a month ago I put it away and haven't used it since I went back to work in the oil fields and figured that wouldn't be a good place for it.

Now that I'm home for the holidays I took it out of my drawer and tries to turn it on. Got notbing, figure it's dead. So I placed it in the charger. The charging screen popped on for a second then went off. Didn't think much of it since it is probably totally drained.

About 5 hours later I go back to the watch, take it off the charger and try to turn it on. Nothing happens. I keep trying and nothing keeps happening. So I put it back on the charger. Nothing. I grab a different cord to charge it. Nothing happens.

The watch is on the pins the correct way, I've tried multiple outlets and cords. This is starting to become upsetting. Please anyone with any suggestions on what to do that would be awesome.

That exact thing happened to me and I read where someone said to plug it into your p.c.instead of the wall and I'll be darned if it didn't work. It's starting to charge now.
