Is the Geek Squad Extended Warranty worth it for a smart watch? Has anybody had to use it?

No. Definitely not.

1. Use a case on your phone if you think you'll drop it.

2. The phone comes with a 1 year warranty and as long it is in good condition from being in the case, the replacement should be easy to get for free.

3. In the off chance you do break the phone, it'll almost definitely be the glass/screen. Various PC stores that fix screens can usually do it for less than $200, depending on the phone. I know at our shop an S5 replacement digitizer/screen assembly costs $165 right now. S6 is probably around 200

What about for a smart watch? You can't really put those in a case.

I just had a bad experience with Samsung saying that they couldn't repair a watch that was only 7 months old. Amazon sold me a watch that was manufactured in Vietnam. Samsung said that I had to send the watch to Vietnam for repair. I managed to get my money back for the watch, so I'm getting a new watch. That being said, I was wondering if I might have had better luck through the Geek Squad.

I think it's worth it, but only for their new accidental plan. It's a 2 year plan that covers accidental damage, so if you crack your screen or whatever they will fix or replace it. I only bought the plan because I got an open box Gear 2 for dirt cheap, but my wife had the plan on her Jawbone and has used it twice to replace faulty units. Now they are just going to give her the credit for what she paid for and she's probably going to use it towards a pebble watch (she only had the regular Geek Squad plan too, she didn't even have the accidental damage one.)

Usually these types of plans are a rip-off, but instead of buying a $10 screen protector and getting a case (which there is none for the Gear 2) I can just get the $30 plan instead.

I have the 2 year accident plans on my tablet as well as my laptop. It's worth it on the laptop but I don't think it is anymore for my tablet. On a smart watch... which one are you planning to buy?

Last week I bought a Gear Fit for $60, Gear 2 Neo for $99, Gear S for $125, and Gear Live for $90. If you are looking for a smart watch, look at Swappa.com and Ebay. Better to treat these things as disposable electronic devices than as durable goods that need insurance.

I'm getting the Gear 2 Neo. I had the Gear Fit, but it went cuckoo at 7 months. My husband had purchased it from Amazon and they sent me one that was manufactured in Vietnam. As a result, when I called Samsung regarding my 1 year warranty, they told me that they couldn't repair the watch. They said that I needed to send it to Vietnam for repairs. To make a long story short, we got our money back from Amazon. I want to replace the watch, but if I end up with another dud, I'd like to be able to get it repaired or replaced.

Vietnam eh... that seems sketchy. I got mine on ebay for $60 on a super sale. Saw it on sale again today for $80... I believe them to be the legit pieces.

I'm undecided about the 2 Neo. I LOVE the Gear S, and the Gear Fit seems to do enough for what it is required to. I use the 2 Neo as a backup if I kill the battery on the S. If you've never used the S though, I think you'll love the Neo

I used to have a Microsoft Band. I bought the warranty. It stopped charging. Went in, got a new one, stood in line, exchanged with no issues and walked out the door.

When I turned it in this last time, they did not have one my size, so, I took the credit and bought the Gear 2 Neo. I REALLY wanted the Gear S, but the damn thing needs it's own Voice/Data plan to use and I didn't want to add that to my bill.

I stray, I bought the warranty and will always buy the warranty from them.

When returning an item with warranty, they refund you the item price and warranty price. You replace the device, get warranty again, if the price dropped, you get refunded the difference. If the price goes up, you get it and the price you bought it for. If all is the same, you go out with a NEW device WITH warranty and NO extra cost.

This is why I will pay a little more at Best Buy on some things to get the warranty.

If you bring in a BROKEN item or bring it in outside of the manufacturer warranty they don't refund the warranty.

Galaxy S works just fine without a data plan, it's just an OPTION. If you are with T-mobile it's only $5/mo. If you aren't (like me) it's only $15/mo. I barely use it, but now when I go on a run I don't bring my phone.

I bring in an item that no longer functions or functions correctly and in some cases a completely broken item (my son goes through headphone like none other, even breaking the cords) and exchange.

As you can see here. they refunded me the price of the item and warranty I paid. Then, charged me for the item and new warranty. We didn't bother with the penny left over.

Cool. Is it always within the manufacturer warranty of 1 year though? My Note 10 2014 they wouldn't refund the warranty for me

Yes, this was within the warranty period, but I have had things I exchanged after the 1 year and get the same treatment.

Maybe just a Miami thing? :P
